Many thanks for your positive feedback and thoughts, very much appreciated. It was a bit cool - 7C and standing in the water tested my thermal wellingtons, but I guess I was too excited to feel the cold, the swiftly changing light play with the low cloud and mist was quite captivating.

Alf

Sincere thanks for your encouraging feedback, much appreciated, but maybe not quite perfect......a bit of distortion on the horizon, which gives me something to improve on next time : - )

LESTER

Thank you so much for your informative feedback and thoughtful comments. I kind of wish I'd posted it larger now, so that the distant detail could be viewed better also.

It was very quiet.......the kind of quiet that comes after a large fall of snow. The old glacier is surrounded by peaks and although I couldn't feel a breath of wind where I was standing, the low clouds / mist swirled silently around thier tops like ghosts.  Thank you for your perceptive observations EL, much appreciated!

Beautiful.  I like it so much better when you resist the temptation to process too much!  best, j

Alf...  Peter Pan?  Uh, ok, but in order to see him I had to fill a container with cold water and submerge my feet.  Well, the comment wasn't serious, but this is a seriously good shot.  I haven't read all the comments, but I particularly like the ambient light shining through the clouds and up the valley on the right.  Excellent work... Many thanks, and yeah I am in complete agreement, sometimes less is more, specially when it comes to processing, though its sometimes tricky knowing when to stop.

You don't have to suffer hyperthemia to see Peter Pan,  but I'm told it does help : - )

The clouds were very transient, moving swiftly around the ridge of the glacier bowl, I composed the shot then just waited for a moment when they obscured the bright sun. Many thanks for your encouraging words and posiitve feedback Mike.

Excellent place to be on hot summer day! Thanks for cooling down me with this exceptional winter presentation!

It's 92 F with high humidity in Barrie, On. today so this one knocks a few degrees off the discomfort index.  I found 'Peter' right away but the cool beer on my desk may have helped.  A couple more and we'll have Wendy, Tinkerbell, Nana, and the whole gang on the screen. (with or without your image) :-)   I like the way the foreground, bottom right, is broken up with the snow capped rocks.  Adds some interest there.  The B&W version of Michel's is great also though the tones of the sky, just right of center, are a tad too dark for me.  Easily remedied in PS though I think.  Keep 'em coming Alf.  Best, LM.

92F .....too warm for me Len, there is something to be said for the British weather, ok it might be wet, foggy, cold and miserable, but its never usually too hot for too long : - ) Glad you managed to locate Peter ......I was beginning to think it was just me!  And yeah I do like Michels B & W version, it gives a good insight to its potential. Many Thanks for your thoughts and feedback Len, always good to hear from you.

Stunning image which immediately cools me down (100 here with lightening and thundershowers this morning) from the hot sun (just came back in from working in my garden); such a welcome relief! I sure wish I lived there right now! Weather aside, this is such a beautiful crisp image - the line of the ice adjacent to the water draws my eye inward and over the mountains and to the light within the clouds. Dreamy image and beautifully done! Thank you for sharing. :)

TRISHA

We had some thunder storms today, the sky turned black, it was fantastic, I love the drama of a storm, but typically I was in work and didn't have my camera to hand. I think on the day this photo was taken it was -7C  but it didn't feel that cold as there was little wind in the lea of the mountain. The low cloud moved constantly and I was able to wait untill such an opportune time when thebrightness of the sun was all but obliterated by the cloud cover. Sincere thanks for your visit and kind words Trisha, Much appreciated!

Kind Regards

Alf

This one had me scratching my head.  An excellent shot as usual but the date didn't match the month.  Your explanation cleared up that part.  Then I searched unsuccessfully for Peter.  I read the comments and now see it.  Very nice effect here.  Dark but not moody as would be the case with rain  and dark skies. (Seems fairly common over there)  Did you use a polarizer ?  If not, the rocks in the water came out nicely.

Another gem, Alf...

Peter Pan can be somewhat elusive : - )

I didn't use a polarisor but I did think about using one, in fact I would have used one but I had my backpack on with the polarisor stashed away and as I was standing in the water I didn't want to risk dropping stuff when I opened it up. But I was fortunate that the cloud cover obscured the brightest part of the sun with the result that glare was minimised anyway and the rocks can be seen beneath the waters surface. Sincere thanks for your interest and positive feedback Jerry.

A very visually appealing image that has been superbly captured.  I also like Michel's BW version

PS Looks good with that lens but I know the other one is much better.

Many thanks for your interest and kind words.

The 16 - 35 F4 is a great lens, very sharp and quite versatile.  I only changed it to the 14 - 24 F2.8 because I had a few annoying problems with distortion.  You can see it here if you look very carefully.

Cheers Tony!

Sitting here gazing out the window & all I see is a dull green landscape, believe the snow ferry has forgotten us. Thought I would visit your site & came upon this white beauty, feel better already. Like how the setting or rising sun highlights the clouds in the background & this really directs your attention to the mountains or are they high hills ,seem to recall a mountain has to be 2000ft high.Sorry, got off track,Like how the lines in the foreground appear to be heading for a turn to the right.Anyway, love the appearance of the clean white snow..Must see how my grass is progressing. Best Wishes-Ross

You normally get more than your fair share of the white stuff : - )

It looks great, but it can play havoc with business, and of course mobility for some too.

I'm really not sure if these peaks are classed as mountains or not I will have to look on a ordinance survey map to find out for sure, but I think they are mountains.

Now I wonder if you found the profile of Peter Pan when you looked at this image : - )

Great to hear from you Ross and I'm really pleased you liked this one !

NEWS FLASH! Peter Pan found! Although I Inspector Ross was clueless of Peter Pan's appearance, my able Inspectroress Vi was quite familiar with his appearance & in our humble but knowledgeable opinion is is on top of the third mountain or hill from the left & his face can be .seen looking up at the sky enjoying the suns warm rays. You mentioned something about ice, but we could find.any trace of him, it's our opinion he has left theses cold climes & heading for Oshawa, On. to enjoy the plentiful supply off green grasses Of course if we are in error we stand to be corrected. Your Humble Servants, Ross & VI

Ha ha I had fun tormenting people with this one!

Ok ........look at the bottom corner at the left hand side. The ice curving upwards and to the right forms the profile of Peters Neck, then comes his chin, his mouth and then his pointy nose!  Finally just above that is the peak of his hat.  But don't feel too bad if you didn't find it......not too many people are quite as warped as me!

I Hope you had a wonderful birthday

All the very best to you and Vi
