stp 6 Posted June 26, 2011 I really like this image, Jeff. Frost is clearly visible on the foreground grasses, and their forms contrast nicely with those a bit further back. And then the scene fades to fog in the distant background, where some forms are barely visible. That's a great way to use fog, IMO. Link to comment
pressuredbyphotons 5 Posted June 27, 2011 A beautiful shade of blue that really creates the mood of winter for me. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted June 27, 2011 Great example of a non-distracting background. The strong foreground and middle ground textures save the day, what with the flat non-directional light. A natural abstract with randomness in the foreground and some order restored in the middle ground. Good idea to leave the tones bluish. Adds to the chill factor, an element a B&W conversion would likely miss. The white frost makes me feel right at home though at this time of the year around my house most of the vegetation is green and mature plus the air conditioning is getting the occasional workout. For you it looks like parka and mukluk time. What is Tumba 1316? Where was this one taken? Best, LM. Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted June 27, 2011 My first though was IR, but you are in the southern hemisphere, so winter is in full throttle I guess. I think this is stunning, but I can see many not catching the subtle beauty. For me, it is superb all the way to the faint detail of trees in the distance and finally, to the heavy fog. Great catch Jeff! Link to comment
mikestacey 0 Posted June 27, 2011 looks cold but worth it. I love the fine detail Jeff and have been looking at some trees in my area which have a similar detailed complexity about them. In fact, the complexity alone is enough for a nice interesting image but the blue tones and layers top it off. Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted June 28, 2011 Thanks folks. I'm delighted that it appealed to you. airly wet snopw had been falling and all the fg trees had loads of fresh snow sticking to them. The middle ground is dead trees which were burnt in the massive bushfires of 2003. This was a scene which presented itself as I was thinking about a different image which was a complete flop.Len, Tumba 1316 is my filename. It helps me keep track of things. It's Tumba because Tumbarumba is where we have a small place which we visit as often as possible. This image was made at Cabramurra. I'll try uploading the Google Earth file but PN didn't allow it in the past.Still doesn't work. Link to comment
