Hi, I am giving bird photography a go. I am looking for input to find out if nature

photos like this are better as closeups, or as full body crops. I am also posting

the same picture as a full body crop. Thanks for your comments

Peter...  It's always impressive to see this level of detail with birds, or any other wildlife, so up close and personal.  As to preference, as soon as I pick one or the other I find a shot from the other persuasion that knocks my socks off; so, I'll go with the opinion that it is subjective to the individual image.  That said, this is excellent... Peter,

While I rate images based upon their content and what the  lens and , settings were , I do find this to be an excellent image. No rating submitted at this time, though.

I tend to think that a very good telephoto lens was used unless this bird was in captivity, then a shorter focal length works well.

Best Regards,  Mike

Crisp, clean image, great capture of a moment, wonderful colors and texture of the tree trunk! What else could we ask for! Congratulations Peter!

Best regards!

........... Welcome to birding. Wow, these 4 shots are amazing. Colour, lighting, definition are all spot on.

Would have liked to see some camera/lens and exif data.

To try and answer your question........ each image holds it's own merit which makes it difficult to choose. For me, tight wildlife/bird images always appeal and all 4 of your images fit into this category.

Great shots all round......... well done.

Regards
