Beautiful coloured cloud formations mirrored to perfection. This is why I think the 50 / 50 composition works so well. I like the immediate foreground, but find the tangled flotsam of branches a bit messy, ok I know I'm being very picky on what is a spectacular shot, and of course another vantage point may not have been possible, its just that such is the majesty of the clouds and the reflection, I think a more minimilistic foreground would have added to the dynamics. The colours are as usual first class.  I have rated it 6

Best Regards

Alf

Tony...  I'm impressed with the superb depth in this shot; and, well, all the gorgeous evening colors as well... Mike

A.K. I am glad you liked and rated it highly.

Harsha: yep - the clouds were the stars in this image - thanks for your comment and rating.

Andrea - now you have me contemplating as to what is the nature of your contemplation.

Ricardo - thanks for the comment and rating. It has been a little while since I visited your images and I should do that soon.

All the very best,

Michael - thank you for your visit and kind words. Over the years you have shown a propensity for these 'evening' images by visiting and commenting. I am glad that you did not miss this one. I jsut got back from the same location and while it was not as spectacular as yesterday, I did get one or two more 'images of interest'.   All the best and I hope that the weather in your area holds steady.

I appreciate your constructive comment and lucky for me, I have a second shot in landscape mode that shows less flotsam. On a previous image which someone had rated it quite low, I asked him if he had any comments and one of the things he mentioned that there was no foreground interest. Here I was motivated to show some foreground interest in terms of the flotsam. In reality, as you indicated, elimination or reduction of the flotsam would give more presence to the colorful reflection.

Fortunately, I took a 2nd shot in landscape mode and it show much less flotsam but its character is quite different to this one and when I have a chance I will attach it to a future comment.

Thank you for your very good rating - Even though you don't submit your images for rating, you are out there rating honestly and in a professional manner and providing constructive comments. i am not sure where you find the time.

My last 4 submissions for ratings ended up with a 4 point 'something' average (been deleted) so I decided to submit a clearly out-of-focus image taken by my 4 year old granddaughter and it did almost (3.85 avg) as well as a similar image to this. So I do appreciate the current 5.6 average I have received on this one after more than 22 ratings.

All the very best,

I love the different textures in this photo ..... the "heaviness" in the clouds and driftwood, the serenity of the blue sky and reflecting water, and the distant landscape ...... all contributing to a photo that stirs the emotions. There's a certain pastoral beauty & calm to the pic. One of my favorites. Well done, Tony.

Thanks for the comment _ I liked the sky also and it changed dramatically over the two hours I spent there taking images. All the best,

As promised here is one with less flotsam  - not quite the same as this portrait mode image. There were taken a couple of minutes apart and the clouds were moving relatively quickly.

Wow! I don't really need to enlarge on anything I previously stated, this photograph does it all for me. Excellent!

As for the ratings, I continue to give what I believe to be a fair and honest score for people brave enough to submit for rating, even though I'm dissillusioned with the system for inclusion of my own participation.  I really don't see any point in scoring images low, if I don't think they are worthy of rating or comment I don't rate them at all and simply concentrate my time on images that I feel are, in my opinion good enough to warrant the attention, or that at least that show the potential to do so.

I'm really not sure what motivates other people to rate images low, particularly when they fail to give any explanation, but it can't be in the interest of improvement.

Just out of interest, I think this would be a 7

Many thanks for taking the time to display it Tony.

Best Regards

Alf

What a great scene, so well captured in a wonderful composition with perfect light and toning. The sky is breathtaking, very dramatic with an amazing play of colors. The overall effect is very powerful.
