Beautifully done Alf! Fabulous light, superb composition, and excellent foreground detail considering the dynamic range you had to deal with in this shot. Way to shoot em guy!

All the best,
Neil

I must give a lot of credit to the D700, as you know the sensor on this camera is brilliant and copes with both extremes of light and dark really well. The only significant change I made to the levels was by using the magnetic lasoo to isolate the lighter parts of the lighthouse and then made an ajustment to the levels just for this.

Sincere thanks for all your helpful critiques Neil.

Many Thanks for your interest and positive feedback. This is the best time of day to appreciate this place, the people have all gone home, the only sounds are the soft "swish" of the waves and the cry of an ocassional gull making its way home, and of course the "click" of my camera as I get "one more shot" : - )

Cheers!

I'm late, all is said above I guess - there are a lot of ghost stories associated with Talacre lighthouse as you know, but I don't see anything suspicious ...:) Compliments for the series - this one is my favorite.

Many Thanks for stopping by I appreciate your interest and comments. Ermm well no nothing suspicious at all........except me skulking around with a camera .......I think the ghost stories are fabricated to keep the kids away at night : - )

Alf, all three are really nice shots, but this is my favorite.  I think it has the best and most interesting composition.  I really like the sculptural quality created by the foreground......obviously at low tide.  It may be my laptop monitor, but it looks like it could use 1/4 or 1/2 stop more exposure.  Terrific image for sure!

Excellent image.Heavenly lights & fantastic composition. Here one thing I would like to know..there are some small pole like structures at right distant horizon, what are those & how it would be if you remove those?(Just a thought I shared in a stunner).

My best regards.

Many thanks for your valuable feedback, much appreciated. I was fortunate that the passing storm had generated anough wind to whip up the waves to result in the sculptured looking foreground that you mentioned. You could be right about the subdued lighting, but there was still a good deal of cloud overhead that may account for some of it.  I'm really pleased you liked this one Drew thanks again!

Siincere thanks for your astute and positive feedback, much appreciated. The structures you refer to are in fact offshore wind turbines, I am quite used to seeing them but realise they might be a bit of a distraction to the the uninitiated viewer, it would be quite easy to remove them and if I was to produce this image for commercial purposes  I would probably do so.

Hi Alf,

This is an excellent image.

It really should be a large mural hung in a place where many people can see and enjoy it .

Wonderful composition.

Best Regards,  Mike

Another great shot from this site.  Different colors but equally pleasing.  The clouds around the sun are the stars of this shot IMO.  The sand looks a little soft.  Did you wear your boots ?

Link to comment

The sand is quite soft here in places, and I always wear boots and in most cases wellington boots, which then allows me to wade through puddles and stand in the sea if necessary to get a shot. This location is near the mouth of the River Mersey estuary though, and further out there is some really soft mud that you can sink in very quickly. I found this out the hard way : - )

Sincere thanks for your interest and comments Jerry.

Kind Regards

First I want to thank you for a very nice comment on my last photo :), your opinion means a lot to me and thank you for sharing your vast knowledge with "noobs" like me that have still a lot to learn.

To get to the photo, I find it just perfect. I love warm gentle colors, it gives me a sense of peace, warmth and hope.

Alf,  Wonderful, Alf; nature carved and you captured.  Perfect image.  I like the way you caught the sun behind some clouds to avoid blow out.  You have a lot of nice places to photograph in England.  Best to you.   Larry

It wasn't very long ago I was a "noob" myself, and getting constructive feedback was one of the great things I found about this site. Of course one of the best aspects of photography for me is, that the subject is so diverse and in depth, that its impossible to know everything about it, and therefore the continuous learning curve continues to drive me forward, and I'm very pleased to say, I'm still learning : - )

Its very gratifying to read you liked the photo, and that it moves you to feel the emotions you described. It is one of my favoured locations, and never looks the same on any visit. The tide changes the shape of the sand and pools every time.

Many Thanks & Best Regards

Alf

LARRY

Sincere Thanks for your interest and thoughtful comments.

You are so right, we have a rich diversity of subjects and terrain within our tiny island, and I count myself as being very fortunate to be able to photograph them.  The beauty of this place as described above, is the ever changing sand patterns.  I'm glad you noticed the diffusion of light behind the cloud bank, this is a ploy I use quite often, using either clouds or objects to avoid the harshest rays of the sun, and as you rightly observe blown highlights. I think there is another shot I took the same evening called "The Alien Observer" where I used the lighthouse itself for the same purpose.

Cheers Larry!
