Sad to see this mother and child so unhappy.

What a wonderful image. I have only one nit to pick and it may simply be in the small files you can upload to Photo.net -- but I would like to see more intensity in the black background. I would not want to lose any of the depth in the highlights.

An excellent composition that evokes many emotions. This mother seems to be getting older, loosing much of her hair, the wee one she holds so delicate, reminding me of our human babies.  The Mother bears an expression that we can only wonder what her thoughts are but you have captured an expression truly that connects the viewer with this great mammal. Lovely lighting, detail and clarity....just Beautiful. You could have gone darker with the background but I truly like the DOF....blends well with her color tones.

It's a great image, but I'm not sure about the sadness part.  Why do you say that?  What is the background story?
