atle.g 0 Posted May 8, 2003 Does this composition work?, Do you see something more than just a cloud? Input appreciated. Thanks!! Link to comment
chris1664876655 0 Posted May 8, 2003 I didn't focus my attention on the cloud. I enjoyed the unseen expansiveness of what I believe to be over the horizon and the isolation of the trees. I like the picture a lot I guess i just see it differently then the photographer. Link to comment
ryan_macrae 0 Posted May 8, 2003 Hi, My name is Ryan and I live in the USA, but my family owns a house in Norway. I actually just came back from a visit to our house in Fredrikstad. I think your picture is great, the composition is awesome. I think it would be interesting to see a print with a clear blue sky, not that I dont like it the way it is. Please critique my one photo, which was taken in Norway. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=1477466&photo_sel_index=2#photo Link to comment
fred_j._lord 0 Posted May 8, 2003 This is as fine as they get. The composition, hues and values are top notch. It also has a wonderful mood of clarity and brilliance. Well done. And again, the software is rejecting my rating of 7/7. Link to comment
xana 0 Posted May 8, 2003 A bear ghost, with an open mouth... and it is going to land on the snow... It's going to make a big pum!!! Ha! Ha! Ha! Was it that what you wanted us to see? Maybe not, but I enjoyed your photo a lot! Link to comment
mclaine 0 Posted May 9, 2003 I don't see any compelling shape in the cloud, but I do like the picture, simple, neat, very very nice. Link to comment
peta 0 Posted May 9, 2003 That is very beautiful Atle. I love the cloud, all works so well. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 9, 2003 Simple, yet effective. I like the starkness of the trees with the shaded foreground and lighter mid-ground Link to comment
philmorris 0 Posted May 9, 2003 I think it's attractive enough. Largely because of the colouring in the neat block of grey foreground and pinky-blues beyond. And the beauty of its simplicity. Talking of which I do feel overwhelmed by a dissapointment that the middle tree and the bit to its right is there. Had it not been and we were just left with the two on the margins I think the even simpler elements remaining here would have been outstanding. The big tree would be able to talk to the little one so much easier. Link to comment
atle.g 0 Posted May 9, 2003 Thanks for the inputs!! Ceu... yes something like that... a "monster" standing on the back mountain with the bright spot being the face,... i did not see this the first hour or so when inspecting it on the lightbox... so i guess is not very obvious. Phil... i agree, without the middle trees it would have been better... But i couldnt find a way to compose it otherwise at this position, tried right and left but not forward, because i wanted to avoid footprints,..in case i wanted to move back again. Regards! jimmcnitt 0 Posted May 9, 2003 Hello Atle: There are two ways to interpret your question. Initially, I thought you were asking if, when glancing at the thumbnail, does the viewer perceive other objects in the frame aside from the cloud? My answer to that is, not much, but just enough. The tumbnail shows just enough of the bare trees to make this a tantilizing image. After reading the critiques, I realize you are asking about imagery in the cloud. I guess, if I were to look at it long enough, something would pop out at me. There is a bit of a suggestion of the Michelin Man running with his left leg extended behind the small tree, for instance. Either way, it's a scene that is as remarkable for its simplicity as for its technical precision. Best, J- Link to comment
richard_vezina 0 Posted May 9, 2003 Beautiful composition! Maybe God himself bending down to have a look at the tree in the distance! Link to comment
miles_hecker 0 Posted May 10, 2003 The composition here works very, very well. The eye flows from the right most tree to its neighbor to the center of the wonderful cloud. The viewpoint them gradually settles gently back to earth. The tone is gentle and the colors subtle but wonderful. No overblown hyper PN saturation to attract attention. Very well done. Guest Guest Posted May 10, 2003 What I see is ... a big cloudy snowman walking towards the photographer. Since childhood I always try to imagine scenes fixing clouds' shapes ...:0). This one is quite unusual! Link to comment
markus_fischer 0 Posted May 10, 2003 This certainly could have been a nice shot. But - in a perfect world you might have deleted the tree in the right background and kept the two right foreground trees a little bit apart. The overlap of two of the trees with the background hill is a bit distracting and makes a kind of a tangle out of the right sid elements of the image. You could have moved a little to the left and a little downwards to alleviate these problems. Link to comment
g1 0 Posted May 10, 2003 A hungry ghost just about to suffocate and swallow the trees. A beautiful photo Atle. Really subtle colour and wonderful composition. The space between the trees is for the viewer to run and escape. BTW I really think the darker fore layer works well here, with the illuminated snow just beyond - drawing the viewer to run toward the light, and that space even more..... what would we find over the hill and far away? henrimanguy 0 Posted June 3, 2003 For me, it works absolutely. The cloud fill perfectly the 2/3 up of the picture. We find in it the grey and the pink of the ground. Personally, I don't find any shape in it, and never try to search for shapes in clouds generally. My only question is "do they work in the composition or not ?" About the two trees in front of the hill, I find it is a very slight flaw which do not affect the composition. Link to comment

leopoldo 0 Posted September 5, 2003 Each thing in nature has its own spirit. Our Yanomami Indians call then Ekuras. The picture is a wonderful landscape and the ekura of the Snow Spirit is helping your image. Regards Leo García / Venezuela / leogarber@hotmail.com Link to comment
