The orginal photo is quite exquisite in itself, but your treatment opens up a whole new dimension to the image previously unthought of (by me at least) I like the resulting surreal alien looking vortex, with the creature lurking within.

Original and creative idea!

Excellent abstract of this butterfly! Never thought of giving one a 'twirl' but it is most effective. Nice work!

Thank you all for the supporting critique. The technique (as stated in the title) has it's root in the theory of complex functions. The particular mapping I used (based on the function 1/z) will take the inside of a given circle and replace it with it's outside (so that the points on the circle itself stay in place.
