alfbailey 3 Posted May 4, 2011 Good to hear from you, I hope you are keeping well! Many thanks for stopping by and for your positive feedback, much appreciated. The Lake district can look so moody in the rain (and lets face it we need some rain too) so you stand a good chance of getting some nice atmospheric shots, thats if it stops long enough for you to get your camera out : - ) Oh yeah and take a long lens, you might get to see the family of otters that have moved in under the Jetty in Windermere.Cheers Harry!Alf Link to comment
3m 0 Posted May 4, 2011 I understand the reasons why you present your photos in small format, Alf... However, this one really needs to be seen large I believe, to fully appreciate the photo's composition, color scheme and overall impact. As noted above, the sky's pattern is really interesting and together with its reflection on the water creates quite a spectacular setting. I like the wooden structure as the focal point in the photo too. (it resembles a bit the wooden structure in "Waiting For The Hangman" (?) Interesting technical details as well -- I always appreciate reading them & especially your personal description of stabilizing the tripod while taking this :-) -- Your hard work and persistency has certainly paid off for you again, Alf..! hamidfarzandian 0 Posted May 4, 2011 So artful fine art landscape photo, creating a calm scene from a noisy climate! I specially like the special color scheme as well as nice general clarity overall. Composition is flawless. A unique shot. Bravo.Hamid. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted May 7, 2011 TONY Thank you, I'm really pleased you liked it!Best RegardsAlfMARJOLEIN I think you have a good point, and in all honesty I'd prefer to upload larger files, but two reasons I don't is 1/ I keep seeing my photo's on other sites that have had no authorisation and 2/ It's just quicker to upload them smaller. You are right about the similarity between this wooden structure and the "Wating for the Hangman" one. Though that is located on the other side of the river about 6 miles away. But you have an excellent memory as well an acute eye for observation. I'm really pleased you enjoyed viewing this one and reading about my wrestle with the tripod : - )My Sincere ThanksAlfHAMID Many thanks for your visit and thoughtful observations. It was a challenge to take a long exposure under the circumstances, but with an interesting result.Cheers Hamid!Alf Link to comment
tonyfrench 0 Posted May 8, 2011 ALf, the light is magical the way it creates the plaid of the clouds. I also like how it moves from lighter to darker from left to right across the water. Link to comment

llgarcia 1 Posted May 10, 2011 The weave appearance of the sky and its reflection make this image outstanding. The creation of this image under the shooting circumstances and still come up with a serene rendition of the water and the color palette truly make this photo stunning. Congratulations, Alf. vbirke 0 Posted May 10, 2011 Hello Alf,This work is a minimalist beauty, I enjoy the great colors (different and therefore very creative IMO) and shapes (clouds, water's surface, gentle waves, of course the mast) and contrasts of them. A wonderful perspective and angle of view plus a skillful lighting contribute to a sophisticated seacape photo.Bw, Volker Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted May 10, 2011 TONY Many thanks for your interest and encouraging words. The clouds were a great find, but the band of light between clouds and horizon was a washed out white that didn't look great, hence the warmer colours I introduced. Glad you liked it Tony.RegardsAlfSARAHSincere thanks for your posiitve feedback and kind comments. Its surprising how appearances can be deceptive, but the calm smooth looking results are what I wanted to achieve, I just didn't think I would in the high winds.Cheers SarahAlfJAMIEI hope you are keeping well. Thanks for looking in and leaving your thoughts and positive feedback. The texture you see directly in front is in fact wet sand, that to the left is water with the wind whipping across it at a rate of knots. I think if it had been an incoming tide rather than out going, it would have produced some interesting waves.Cheers Jamie.AlfMJ Sincere thanks for your interest and very kind words, much appreciated. I see lots of imperfections, but I guess we all do that with our own work, we are perhaps sometimes too critical of our own work, but then I suppose thats what makes us strive to become better.Best RegardsAlfBOBBY Good to hear from you I hope you are keeping well. Many thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, very much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfLESTERSincere thanks for your interest and supportive feedback, much appreciated. I must admit I have never encountered a sky like this before. The reflections in the wet sand was a bonus and the only I could find to give a focal point ot the composition was the wooden structure, the sky and the wet sand were only visible for a couple of minutes, so I'm glad I took the opportunity to capture it.Cheers Lester!AlfVOLKER Many Thanks for your visit and positive feedback, much appreciated! I am pleased you like the colour, it's different yes, and surreal to some degree, but looks better in my opinion than the cold grey blues of the original. The minimilistic aspect was due in most part to the fact that there simply wasn't much in the way of subject matter in the direction of the clouds, so I can't take too much credit for that, but as you create some awesome minimilistic images yoursellf, your words are most welcome and very reassuring.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment

elportebonheur 0 Posted May 11, 2011 The beacon makes a perfect silhouette and the longer exposure time ( guess necessary because of low light levels at that time of day) gives dynamic and energy to the scene - the kaleidoscope of colors included. Great work, Alf, as usual in fact. Link to comment

alfbailey 3 Posted May 12, 2011 KALLOLMany thanks for your interest and kind words, much appreciated. I have never seen a sky quite like this one before, so I was very fortunate to have my camera with me, the truth is I was there to photograph something else, but just happened to see this, so you might say, luck does play a part in photography.Best RegardsAlfKOUSHIKMany thanks for your visit and positive feedback, much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfGAIL Sincere thanks for your interest and encouraging feedback, I'm really pleased you liked it. As for the conditions.......well you know me Gail....I don't like to make it look too easy : - )Warm RegardsAlfELMany thanks for your thoughtful and well considered feedback. The long exposure wasn't strictly necessary, I could have opened the aperture and increased the ISO to get a faster one, but I wanted the effect of the smoother water and movment in the clouds that a long exposure would give. As it happened the wind speed at cloud level wasn't any where near what it was on the ground, so the 30 second exposure didn't show much movement in the cloud, but maybe that wasn't a bad thing after all.Cheers ElAlfANTONETA Thank you for stopping by to take a look, and for your kind comments.Best RegardsAlfANDREASincere thanks for your visit and positive feedback, much appreciated. How many times have you said those words "I wish I had my camera to hand right now" I know I've muttered those immortal words dozens of times, but this time I actually did have my camera to hand : - ) .........I was in that location photographing the "Anthony Gormley" statues in the location "Another Place" on Crosby Beach, Merseyside, when I noticed the sky, it was just a pity that I couldn't get one of the statues in the frame too, but I still count myslf as being fortunate.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
