Yes, the light with the shadows of the bars pointing toward the downed bicycle.  Abandoned? Tipped over?  But it is that early morning light that is so lovely...illuminating the enigma of the tipped over bike.

Such a gorgeous early morning light sweeping across the street and creating specular highlights on bicycle. I also appreciate this detail how the front wheel touches the arc on the ground, sorta anchoring this momentary collapse to stationary reality. Superb catch on the New Year's Day you made here, indeed.

Hi Jack

The bike was "busted" by "the lights of heaven" and fell on a cold, dark cobblestones. Amazing light! ... oops that has been said already:) But it's so true.

"Consider a man riding a bicycle.  Whoever he is, we can say three things about him.  We know he got on the bicycle and started to move.  We know that at some point he will stop and get off.  Most important of all, we know that if at any point between the beginning and the end of his journey he stops moving and does not get off the bicycle he will fall off it.  That is a metaphor for the journey through life of any living thing, and I think of any society of living things."  by William Golding

My best regards. Cosmin

My first thought was alien abduction. I like the way in which the hard geometry of the solids interact with the striations in the light.

Exceptional photo & "more" exceptional the title! I like the reflexion on the chainguard. Ciao, Alx

A perfect combination of elements and ethereal light---all gently prodded by a great title. Nice work! ~~~~L

Such a beautiful photograph, luminous and subdued at the same time.  I would ask how you do it, Jack, but I already know: with your eyes and heart. Dan

Just beautiful, in all its simplicity, Jack. But it's that particular, magical morning light that really gives your photo wings. (and Jeff already said it so nicely)

I'm thinking of you and the people of Japan at this moment, and I hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well, Jack.

So many of my favorite photographers commented on this and a couple of you at length. I am very gratified to find myself in such rarified company. Yesterday we had a disastrous earthquake and tsunami in northen Tohoku, Japan and several of you have contacted me to see if I am OK. I appreciate your concern very much and can assure you I am fine. We felt the tremor in Osaka but it was very mild. The people of northern Japan were not so fortunate. Sometimes it takes a horrific event like this to put things in perspective and make us appreciate just how lucky we are. Thanks again for your concern and your comments on this picture.
