Beautiful b&w landscape. Great tones and composition and the square format is very appropriate. Regards!

In this photo you manage to arrange different types of lines in a manner that different symmetries / geometrical forms can be discovered. Actually, the pond appears - approximately - as a triangle which is combined with two other ones - the trees and their reflections in the pond can be enwrapped by two other conceived triangles - more ore less. Three points (two roots in the pond and the silo) form a very good contrast - and another triangle! - as well as the branches of the tree and the grass sods to be seen in the foreground, hence  giving a very good impression of DOF. The wide angle of view also provides a very good impression of depth and space here.

The b&w editing suits very well because it let the viewer focus on the symmetries IMO. Lighting is awesome because it leads the viewer's eye from the darker corner of the pond in the foreground along a diagonal axis along the root and the setting sun approximately to the right upper corner (not perfectly, the branches seem to touch the sunlight - as a kind of a "lightning rod"...).

The square format is well chosen IMO, because it forms two contrasts: the wide angle view appears almost as a fisheye view (circular form), and of course it enhances / helps identify the triangle structures.

I'm pondering a bit whether the silo is too close to the left margin, but it is a pivotal part of the mentioned triangle (along with the two other roots) here. It has a small size as well, hence I think it is OK.

Overall, this scene has been very, very well observed, captured, composed and edited. Very creative and aesthetic landscape photography. Light, space and shape have been arranged in a very meaningful and expressive manner here, so this place here is furnished by a special kind of grace - by your work. Bravo!

This is a most striking landscape and theres not much to add after Volkers very comprehensive comments. However I will add my own thoughts. My first thoughts are "Why on earth hasn't this image had more attention" it certainly deserves it from my perspective.

The backlit line of trees are striking and reflected in an almost V formation that makes them an excellent central element for the rest of the composition to work. The overhead canopy works in conjunction with this to form a complete frame where the square format is entirley suited. Foreground grass detail, the silo to the left and the log in the water are all added attractions. I would only consider one tiny change of little significance, and thats cloning out the dark bit of vegetation that appears just lower of mid frame to the far right.

Great B & W Landscape, very well done Bobby!

Best Regards

Alf

Hi,

Thank you very very much for the comprehensive comments and showing me the subtle details I didn't aware of. Much appreciated!

Thanks

Great shot. I would have lowered the camera just a tad to avoid one of the closer branches "touching" a distant branch (upper portion of the image). That is a tiny 'nit' on a very good image.  (6). Congrats.
