This is my first attempt using the HDR function of CS5, and wanted to find

out about any known areas that I missed and could improve upon.

I think you have processed the image well as a HDR. The only let down is the sky, where intense white parts show that you have lost detail due to over exposure. There is also a slight halo round some of the trees, this is another typical HDR side effect. There are ways round both of these problems. For the overexposed sky, try shooting with a ND graduated filter, or use the exposure compensation adjustment to ensure a balanced exposure for the sky (Even if this makes the firrst image dark when you bracket the shots 1 EV space apart, it should ensure a balanced light overall)

The way round the halo's is to process one of your RAW files as normal, concentrating on a balanced sky. Then use this image as a layer in photoshop and using the erasor tool reveal only the parts of the HDR that you wish to see. Hope this info will help.

Best Regards

Alf

Alf thanks for your insight on the HALO effect, which I tried for the longest to remove from the image. I also didn't go with a (camera indicated) properly exposed picture because it was indeed dark, and thought it would limit me when merging the pictures. The weather has finally cleared here in Florida, and I'm heading back out to take pictures and will make use of your tips. Once again thanks.

I agree with the others It is a great first attempt. It looks really nice on the large version except for the sky being so light. I look forward to seeing the next attempt.  Pat
