Guest Guest Posted January 30, 2011 Tim,What a pretty girl! I love the mood you have created. The soft expression with her eyes closed and her head tilted slightly down makes for a wonderful photograph. You have filled in the split lighting very well. There is enough shadow to make the photograph interesting, but light enough to see some detail in the shadowed areas. Your shadows have helped to create a nice illusion of depth within the photograph. Her skin tone is very good. You have focused well on her eyes. The background is nicely out of focus and neutral. Her lit side is well separated from the background.A little kicker on the shadowed side of her hair would have helped separate it from the background. That is quite a large area to have in deep shadow without any detail showing.I really like her skin tone. It is too bad that her left shoulder strap is lighter than her face. The viewer's eyes will go to the lightest area of your photograph. In this case, that is her shoulder strap -- not her face. Her eyes appear to be in very good focus. You depth of field is so narrow that the left side of her hair and her left shoulder are out of focus. I don't see a good reason to have any of her out of focus. An out of focus background is very nice and focuses attention on your subject. Parts of your subject out of focus will draw attention away from what is in focus. It is difficult to go wrong with having the entire subject in focus.Nice shot,Mark Link to comment
mark_starr 0 Posted January 30, 2011 I think I would agree with Marc's comments, especially the part about what a wonderful portrait it is! We seldom see portraits with the subjects eyes not actually in view, and this makes this one stand out for me - the mood it sets is really great - very contemplative and warm. Very nicely done, and thanks for sharing it with us-mark Link to comment
