drorbaldinger 0 Posted November 21, 2012 Beautiful house in my favorite architectural style.A section of the city which I grew up in, Tel Aviv, has been designated a few years a go by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since there are nearly 4,000 apartment buildings and house in this architectural style in the mid-town section of the city. The city was often refereed to as The White City because, as you know, they were always white.Anyway, I made a dew suggestions to your image, mainly keeping the vertical lines (essential in architectural photography) also, brightening the center and darkening the edges. maria 7 Posted November 21, 2012 Thank you, Dror.My main research area are buildings from this time, and, as such, I wish to visit Tel Aviv one day.Maybe interesting for you to see the works of Marcel Iancu in my portofolio, as he emigrated there (but as far as I know continued only to paint).kind regardsMaria Link to comment
drorbaldinger 0 Posted November 22, 2012 Maria - at some point after the Second World War there were more Bauhaus trained architects practicing in Israel than any other place in the world. You can only imagine the conditions being perfect for implementation of modern architecture. A "new" socialist, workers based society with growing need for housing. A society which wants to break free from the dark past of Europe and sees in architecture the perfect vehicle for that. I can name so many wonderful buildings. The journalist and writers union building as one for example. A real gem.The Labor Unions complex is text book Le Corbusier. In the 60's era buildings his influence can be seen everywhere. "Beton Brute" was the standard building construction. Wonderful, wonderful buildings. I remember as a child these buildings looked so enormous and imposing. The look so small now.Like all buildings, these white plaster buildings or even the exposed concrete buildings require maintenance which is a whole different story. Richard Meier is completing a 40 story residential tower now, the marketing folks got very clever...they market it as a white tower for the white city. It's just a short flight from Romania...
