What a fine image this is, with the sun and shadows setting off a great sky. There's something almost hopeful here. And that amidst all the signs of human habitation.

Jeff, this is an interesting shot. It reminds me of the days before everyone had a dryer. Those clouds look like billowing smoke.

Amazing tones, textures and dramatic sky.  I just came back from Brazil and it was interesting to note that although washers tend to be common, dryers on the other hand are not.  Most people hang their clothes outside to dry.

David:  I think mere fact of looking up sometimes works magic.  I tend to be the kind of guy who looks down so I can watch where I'm going rather than looking around at the possibilities of where I might go.  I'm working on it...

Donna:  No real message here.  I take a lot of photos that I think are merely nice photos, but I don't post enough of them.

Linda:  I loved the clouds.  The light was really cool as well.

Adan:  Welcome back.  Yep, I wonder why we don't air-dry our laundry.  There's nothing more smile inducing than seeing your neighbor's underwear flapping in the breeze.

I agree with you on the "looking up part"!  Amazing whats going on up there sometimes.  This shot is great..the angle works really well.  The clouds..perfect.  THe shadows and light play really pretty with each other.  An ordinary day "doing the laundry" taken a step out of the box! Nice one Jeff! ~j

What the hell is going on here? Is that a tree? Clouds? An explosion? Is the building on fire? (if it's the latter, those clothes are gonna get dry real quick - what's left of them). This is among your most enigmatic of pictures.

there’s really nothing going on here but the pure beautiful atmosphere of a picture rooted in classic photography. The muse inspired you to venture upwards and frame the convergence of all that geometry above (the lens distortion may be something to address in a final print – and what a fabulous print this will make). I love the striking clouds and the range of tonality of soft light bathing the clean laundry and casting its shadows on the building, makes for a gorgeous frame and one of your best.

A week without a computer.....and today a new one!first visiting my favorites! I like the beauty of the whole. The sky are bizarre, partly sky partly tree, both explosive...,the light and shadows are  very well feeling the laundry on the wall. I like as well the angles of the two houses "facing" reach other.Very interesting composition.

Janis:  Thanks so much.  Looking up is difficult with a camera because of all the converging lines, but this seemed to hold some charm, mostly because of the laundry.

Jack:  Definitely not an explosion or fire.  But a little turbulent peace is okay, isn't it?  I like your interpretation, though.  I keep thinking that in trying to be meaningful, I've not actually become any better as a photographer.

Carlos: I use DxO, but thought the perspective corrected version seemed weird, so I went back to the original, except for straightening the main edge of the building.  As I said to Jack, I've gotta work on being a better photographer, not taking a shortcut by being clever.

Pnina:  In my wanderings in Barcelona, there were so many interesting nooks, this being one of them.  The sunlight was brilliant, despite the clouds.

I hope you didn't take my comments wrong. I like this picture a lot but I must say my attention was definitely taken by the clouds which do look apocalyptic especially when contrasted with the commonplace of the drying clothes.

jack is right, as usual, of course, but for me the solution is to let it be a dark picture, with the clouds in range and the clothes just poking their little heads above the darkness.  In that case, I would like it a lot.  (probably means it would be worse in some horrible objective sense.)  yours cynically, jamie

I can almost imagine the wonderful array of colors.  But the change to B&W tends to lend an equal balance to the clouds as well as the unfolding laundry.  You have a wonderful eye for the corners of any lanscape thet are often overlooked.

A beautiful picture in great light. The B&W treatment makes it a classic. Meaningful in its simplicity, but because it is also quite complex. A Photographer's photograph.

Jeff, I wish you a Happy New Year. All the best to you and loved ones for 2011.

Jack:  There's nothing in your comment to take offense.  I'm delighted that it stirred up a little tension.  A comment I'd hate to hear is:  Yeah, real pretty, yawn, moving on..."

Jamie:  Cheers to cynicism.  Raise another glass of the wine, my friend.  Hmm.  It seems a little off.  Perhaps a bad year.

Bob:  Corners and angles.  Corners and angles.  My wife always complains.  Little Julie was blowing out her birthday candles and YOU were taking a picture of the spiderweb in the corner.

Tatjana:  Thanks so much.

Laurent:  No higher praise than a photographer's photograph.  If only I deserved such adulation.
