My friend the tone here is very unique, is this a natural tone or is it a tone of IR work?

The place wouldn’t look in a better form without this effect and the effect of tone is also adding a very pleasant atmosphere to the over all composition.

This is a great choice of a successful landscape, having all exceptional landmarks, excellent light conditions, and well-chosen elements, as well as very good composition and amazing sharpness ( as always ). Although such cool blue balance is in coordination with that cold situation, but i think slightly heavy , in that there is no true white here. This beautiful scenery merits to try a well white balance ( as i sure you already done it ), with warmer hues. It's still very impressive artwork. My best regards.

Thanks for the comment on Buddah yes the comment is valid I think when I look at it on my MAC is looking fine then the transfer made it darker than I wanted. I am still working on how to translate my data to the site where it keeps the development I did in CS.

I do like this image the hues are nice and the feeling is nice as lighting sure added a lot of dimension to the over all image... Well Done.. MJ

Alf, a great image with the snow covered trees on a crystal clear day. The red coat in an otherwise monochromatic image is wonderful and draws us right to it.

Beautifully composed -- A really wonderful winter scene, Alf..! The person with the red coat contrasts beautifully with his surroundings. He is "la cerise sur le gâteau" here, imo. ( = French equivalent for "icing on the cake" ;-)

This is a very beautiful winter surrounding. Not living in a snow culture it is especially attractive. I like the composition and the red spot of color in all this  bluish/white landscape.The light and shadows are adding to the atmosphere.

This is a lovely winter scene and it looks really cold! I like how you have captured the walker and the reflection in the water and the fact that the walker is wearing a red coat - goes really well with the white/blue of the snow.

Sincere thanks for your visit and positive feedback, I did not use any IR with this shot, the snow laden trees come as a result of a really heavy snow fall the night before which coated just about everything in snow, the tempratures still remained at around - 6C even though the sun was shining when I took this. I did change the WB slightly to give a cooler tone and exaggerate the cold snow.

You are quite accurate in your observations I have changed the white balance in order to "cool down" the snow, maybe a bit too much, but the bright sunshine had given the trees the warmer hues to which you refer, and I didn't think it was very attractive, perhaps theres a compromise somewhere between the two.

I had taken a few shots of the river and the tree's but it lacked something, then the walker entered the scene and bingo! "La cerise sur le Gateux " I could actually read that in french and hear the wonderful accent, I was really good at French in school as I could imitate the accent so well. But alas i've forgotton most of it. Strangely enough I named a recent image that too "The icing on the cake"

This is very striking!  The sun lighting the snow covered branches really highlights the sharpness of the image.  I have to ask, did you arrange for the red coated figure to walk across this beautiful landscape?  A lovely touch!

I spotted the guy walking his dog, his red coat looked really vivid in the sunlight, so I set off on the opposite bank of the river to try and catch up with him, I was walking in 8" of snow, carrying a rucksack with all my gear and a tripod, I had to stop to change lenses as I needed a longer lens than the 16 -35mm that was on the camera at the time to make anything of the shot, but I wish I could have "arranged"  the shot, it would have made life a lot easier : - ) . The lens is a new one and I'm very pleased with it, worth checking out if you need a long lens. The shot was hand held at 70mm but it's equally as sharp at 300mm

in my opinion its a little bit busy picture with many details everywhere and at some point of view this idea would work even better if it would be more simple ( this probably was not possible). even so, the picture is working very good because of the nice light and atmosphere. a very good photo.

I like a lot the composition with that perfectly placed red coat. The light and reflection are beautiful too.

The tree's and surroundings could be described as "busy" I suppose, and theres no doubt this shot would work better with a guy in red walking in clear fields (albeit wthout a reflecton) but the opportunity presented itself as it was and I took the shot. I think you have to work with whats in front of you, although I can appreciate where you are coming from.

You may have recognised this place if the photo was taken a few yards further upstream, it is Llanrwst downstream of the cafe and the bridge, the snowfall they had was amazing, there was a thick carpet of it that clung to every tree and bush. I just got lucky with the guy in the red coat. Thanks for your comments John, much appreciated.

What can be more pleasntly than to walk in a moment like that,all the best in 2011.

I know you probably wanted it blue, but to me, scenes like this almost always appear white in the shadows and yellow in the highlights.
