vbirke 0 Posted November 30, 2010 After a long drive of more than 800 km from Adelaide down to Victoria's spectacular coastline East of Warrnambool, I was arriving at the famous Great Ocean Road appr. 1 hour before sunset. Awesome views were embracing myself, I simply couldn't believe what I was observing (a bit...;-)), and think I was pretty lucky to take a few stunning shots IMHO. Here is one of them. Felt as if I had set my feet on a freshly emerged new (old) continent - Gondwana maybe... ;-) Hope you like it and thx for stopping by. Buona visione. Cheers, Volker p.s. the atmosphere here, the lights and colors etc., everything resembles the photo "Mora" of Ian Cox-Leigh (here at PN), which inspired me to upload my pic. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted December 1, 2010 Great sky with the multiple forms and colors. It does have a very primordial look to it. Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted December 1, 2010 A gorgeous scene, superbly photographed Volker! Love the coppery colors, the excellent detail in the foreground sea, the magnificent sky (of course), and the marvellous composition. This projects a wonderful mood. Excellent work! All the best,Neil Link to comment

johnolsen 0 Posted December 2, 2010 Volker,A very dramatic image. I went to look at your profile and you said you wanted ideas on composition. Composition is extremely subjective , but here are my thoughts for you. I like the light refection on the water which you placed on the left side with the rocks balancing on the right side. In my humble opinion this would look better horizontal but not seeing the rest of the image I am not sure if you have enough to do that. I also think the foreground is a little weak, nothing to draw you eye there and lead you thru the shot. Subjective thoughts for sure, and I only took the time to submit this because I really like this image! Cheers Link to comment

stp 6 Posted December 2, 2010 I had some of the same thoughts as John Olsen, in that I thought this might be a great candidate for a stitched photo to provide a wider view; this is just a little slice, limited by the format of the camera. While the square format captures all of the essential ingredients, it doesn't capture a sense of their expansiveness across the horizon. I might also mention that I like the diffuse clouds at the very top, and I don't find the foreground waters to be relatively weak as John expressed; I do think they contribute to the photo in their own way (imagine if this had been a long exposure and the foreground had been rendered smooth -- that wouldn't have been as effective, IMO, because some of the dynamic feeling in the photo created by the swirling waters would have been lost. vbirke 0 Posted December 2, 2010 Just in brief at the moment: I'm grateful to you for your thoughts, all are very useful IMO. John and Stephen, I like your discussions emphasizing on pros and cons - John, I'm gonna edit another version addressing what you've mentioned. Stephen, will take your second note into account as well soon - fortunately, I had taken a higher number of shots at this spot, so let me check them out and maybe get back with a kind of a panorama or stitched view. Cheers, Volker Link to comment

melloncollie 0 Posted December 5, 2010 the color combination, and foreground textures make this photo very effective. outstanding composition. Link to comment
tonyfrench 0 Posted December 5, 2010 Volker, both of these images are really beautiful, and I suppose very different in their purpose. While the panorama shows the context of these magnificent rocks, this one shows more of the detail of the surf and a bit of the mist surrounding them. The sunset is really wonderful. Link to comment
