revisiting the old theme in a new form, a boy and his dog... maybe more a man and his dog - same thing! I like the graphic layers here Ton even if the hypnotics of all the intersecting geometric play get my eyes slightly crossed. But all I need do is shake my head, like an old dog, and everything reverts back to normal. I appreciate how you decided to accord all that space to the asphalt - it is an original POV but takes a little getting used to.

I am of two minds looking at your capture, which I appreciate mostly for its graphics and contrast in textures. I like the black silhouette of the man and the little white dog, walking out of the frame. However, I'm torn as to a square crop would be better here (as the triangular shapes of cobble stones and asphalt practically match in size), instead of the greater prominence given to the asphalt in your capture...? ( I'm not sure whether the shadow of the tree provides enough of an 'anchor point' ) Anyway, an excellent capture, Ton. thanks all.

Yes, I can understand the ambiguity concerning the composition here. However, would I have chosen for a square crop for instance it would probably have been more striking but also predictable. I like to experiment with somewhat unusual compositions, especially if I feel it might add interest to a photo. That's what it does for me here. Will that feeling last? Frankly I've no idea and I might reconsider given time but for now I think it works, at least for me.

Hello, Ton.  I like so much about this photo for all the obvious reasons.  The only suggestion I would make it to make a little more space above the head -- not a lot, just a little -- because it looks just a little bit too tight there.  Love the dog and the texture.

Ton, I would recognize this  photo as one of yours in an instant.  You have a knack for  taking what others would define as awkward and turning the unconventional into something possessed of grace and originality.  To my eye everything here is exactly as it should be.  The roadway being divided by lines and tones into  2 blocks with a third block defined at the bottom by shadows balances spot on with the cobbled upper section.  The complexity of the tone and texture of the asphalt sets up the high contrast starkness of the man and dog against the cobbles at the top.

Besides this and more , you gotta know that I am a sucker for a photo of a man and his dog.  I like that the man is a silhouette and the dog is not.

I have not been around PN much but wanted to drop by and wish you and your family the best of the season and a joyous new year.

Best

Gord

I really love the "lines" you produced  on this photo. I can see that there is another nice photo in it.
