alfbailey 4 Posted November 27, 2010 I fell in love with this place immediately that I saw it, it wasn't until later I found out it was a Hotel.......Hmm definately on my list of places to stay. Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated. Thank You. Link to comment
hamidfarzandian 0 Posted November 27, 2010 Very interesting unique shot of a unique place, with very good composition. The muted color palette and soft tones greatly enhanced the mood and are very suitable to scene. I think this place is amazing location to stay for a week! Well seen and well crafted. Bravo and thank you for sharing it.Hamid. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted November 27, 2010 Alf... Wow, what a wonderful place. Quiet and serene and all of that beautiful mountain fog. Hmmm, what do you think about removing the little orange dot? Every time I look at the hotel, it catches my eye. Regardless, an excellent shot... Mike Link to comment
pfranklin 0 Posted November 27, 2010 Did someone say ROMANCE.......how lovely is this place! So peaceful and tranquil, truly a place to decompress and reconnect with the soul. I do recommend the larger view as you suggested. The clarity and soft pleasing colors along with that magical mist is well presented. I too shall have to put this on my bucket list! My compliments Alf, this is a wonderful storybook photo! Warmest regards, Pamela Link to comment

sreegraphy 0 Posted November 28, 2010 Beautiful Scenic capture.. Probably you could sell this to the Hotel... I don't think they should be having one like this before... Link to comment
victorwei 0 Posted November 28, 2010 Yes, perhaps one day, I could stay there for awhile myself. Your image shows the beauty of its surrounding very well.Is that the legendary lake serpent you captured there? Link to comment
schouwman 0 Posted November 28, 2010 beautiful shot great lighting and composition. congrats Link to comment
blue-olympus 0 Posted November 28, 2010 Fantastic location, superb photography. You certainly have created a "stunner" here Alf. This chateau type bulding is looking most elegant surrounded by trees, mist and water. Love the overall blue hue with the hotel looking like an oasis admist it all....7 Link to comment

papasan 0 Posted November 28, 2010 Great shot Alf, nice atmosphere. I would definitely consider this place for a stay if only for the photo opportunities. I would be a bit worried about the loch ness figure in the water though ;-) Cheers michel Link to comment
aarkp 2 Posted November 28, 2010 it's beautiful... love the nuanced hues and shades... it would make a very attractive publicity photograph for the hotel Link to comment
JimCowan 0 Posted November 28, 2010 I looked 'Loch Sheil' up in Wikipedia, it seems that this was the fictional Hogwarts lake in the film version of Harry Potter. The colours all work together to produce a very pleasing palette. The mist and its reflection frame this beautifully and of course your composition makes the most of this natural framing. As others have said this looks like a lovely place to visit. Beautifully photographed! Jim Link to comment
terrygilroy 0 Posted November 28, 2010 Wonderful colours and tones, I might be tempted to remove the Loch Sheil monster floating in front of the building - could start a great monster hunt though! Regards Link to comment
elportebonheur 0 Posted November 28, 2010 First of all, you should offer this one to Manja and Duncan Gibson... ;) I like this scene you have captured here - the reflection of Glenfinnan House and surroundings off the water included. The typical scottish light didn`t make this shot specially colourful, but it renders the real atmosphere of the local climate and weather around Loch Shiel for the time of the year. Fantastic work - compliments Alf Link to comment
steveshinn 0 Posted November 28, 2010 Very nice job Alf, The colors, mood and lighting are wonderful. I might burn the lower left corner just a little to use up some of the lake but it's perfect as is. Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted November 28, 2010 Hi Alf, Nice composition here. Looking across the lake to the off-center building and the surrounding foliage works perfectly. You have layers of things working here, the reflection below the mist or fog above yet a clear shot to the house. Fits like a frame. Take care.Best Regards,Holger Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted November 28, 2010 Wow! Gorgeous shot Alf! You've captured the Scottish mood superbly with this image. I like the blue hues, but find them a touch to magenta too be natural looking.A beautiful, moody, tranquil scene. All the best,Neil Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted November 29, 2010 An extraordinary place, and a beautiful rendition of it! This is one of the most idyllic settings I've seen in awhile! I was just kind of staring at it (escaping for a moment....dreaming of being at such a spot), and the more I looked at it, something seemed not quite right. Now mind you.....I'm the kind of person who is rather compulsive about things being straight. My husband doesn't need a level or measure when I'm around because I can tell when things are off by millimeters. So take this with a grain of salt.....it may not bother anyone else. But try tilting this just a bit to the right. The building seems to be out of alignment with the edge of the frame very slightly. See if you agree..... :-) How do you keep finding such great subjects to shoot??!! :-) Link to comment
engela 0 Posted November 29, 2010 Great capture! The soft tones and colours adds to the mystical mood of the image. Well done. Regards, Engela Link to comment
trakakis 0 Posted November 29, 2010 Wonderful photo Alf! Very atmospheric!! The fog is very well captured and the house at the right place at the frame!! Best regards!!! Link to comment

alfbailey 4 Posted November 30, 2010 HAMID Many Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Indeed it would be a lovely place to stay, I can't think of anything more pleasant than looking over my morning paper after breakfast, at a view like this.Best RegardsAlfMICHAELSincere thanks for your visit and positive feedback. Yes your right about the orange dot, I should have cloned it out. I probably would if I was to have it printed.Kind RegardsAlfPAMELAAhhh Romance in Scotland, walking hand in hand through the heather, the squelch of wet footwear in our ears, the resounding Slap! as I swat yet another midge on the back of my neck and the pungent smell of boiling porridge permeating the morning air .... who said romance was dead eh? : - ) ...... Sincere thanks for your very encouraging words Pamela, very much appreciated, it really is a stunning location, and yeah definately one for your list.Warmest RegardsAlfTRISHAMany thanks for your visit and kind words, I'm really pleased you liked it. It's a bit remote, but then if a quiet refuge is your desire, then this is definately the place.Best RegardsAlfSREEHARIMany thanks for your visit and kind words, not a bad suggestion either, you could be right, there might not be too many shots like this about, there can't be too many people willing to stand ankle deep in water in the rain waiting for the mist to part for a photo......but then again......thats what photographers do! : - )Best RegardsAlfVICTOR Sincere thanks for your visit and positive feedback. No the serpent isn't the legendary Loch Ness Monster affectionately known as "Nessie" this is one of her small offsrpring "Jessie" of course there is also her siblings Bessie Tessie and Messie, but they were all out having fun scaring tourists! : - )Kind RegardsAlfJANEGBERT Many thanks for your visit and kind words, much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfKEITHSincere thanks for your visit and very encouraging feedback, much appreciated. This is one of those locations, that refuses to look bad in any weather conditions.Cheers Mate!AlfBOBBY Many thanks for your visit and thoughts, I'm very pleased you liked this one.Best RegardsAlfMICHELSincere thanks for your visit and kind words, this is a photographers paradise, not just this particular location, but vast area's of Scotland. As for the monsters......like most of the locals, they are very friendly : - )Kind RegardsAlfRAJATMany thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, I'm really pleased you liked it. You could be right about a publicity photo.Best RegardsAlfJIMSincere thanks for your visit and positive feedback. Yeah I believe you are right, this was the "black lake" from the Harry Potter films, no shortage of misty atmosphere, could have been a reason for the chosen location. It really is "magical" though, and I recommend a visit.Best RegardsAlfTERRY Good to hear from you, I hope you are keeping well. Many thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback. As for removing the monster.......I wouldn't dare, there would be a national outcry! I'd never be allowed back over the borders again! : - )Cheers Terry!AlfEL Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and positive anaolgy, much appreciated. Your geographical knowledge never fails to impress me. Maybe Manja and Duncan would consider a trade, I wouldn't mind a weekend at that location : - ) The area is stunning, and I feel I've only touched the edges.Cheers ElAlfSTEVEMany thanks for your visit and positive feedback. Yeah I see where your coming from with that suggestion, but as this was a crop already I didn't want to take it much further.Best RegardsAlfHOLGER Sincere Thanks for stopping by, and sharing your thoughts. I see what you mean about the "frame" I was quite fortunate with the dispersal of the mist, it was constantly moving and changing density.Cheers Holger!AlfNEILMany thanks for your visit and posiitve feedback. The natural colour of the mist is a very grey looking shade, which is ok, but a bit bland looking, I changed the WB of the mist as suggested by someone from a previous post "Misty Eye" I think it was, and I must admit prefer the cooler looking blueish hue, probably a compromise would work, a slightly less saturated, more subtle shade of blue perhaps.Cheers Neil!AlfCHRISTALAhhh yeah it really is one of those dream locations, a stroll on the well manicured lawns after dinner, the splash of wild loch Salmon leaping, the cry of a solitary hawk as it circles overhead, a glass of wine.........well we all love to dream eh? Ahhh compulsive obssesive disorder about things being straight......AKA a perfectionist! : - ) You remind me of the wife, "up a bit dear, no thats too much, down a bit, a bit more, a bit more, no no no lets try it the way we had it the first time in the other room" : - ) But like her your probably right too! (just as well she never reads this, I'd never hear the last of admitting she's right)Interesting question you ended on there Christal, finding great subjects to shoot is always a challenge, and on this occaision I had a 7 hour drive, and further hour from our cabin to this one. Three of us photographed the loch, but I don't think the other two guys took a shot of the Hotel. So I suppose personal vision is a factor too, none of us see things in quite the same way. But I believe that great subjects to shoot are all around us, finding the right permutation of light, angle , composition, weather, time of day, is the key to all great photographs. Many thanks for your thoughts and contribution Christal, much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfENGELAMany thanks for your interest and positive feedback, much appreciated. "Mystical" yeah thats a good descriptive word, very befitting for this place.Best RegardsAlfGEORGESincere Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, very much appreciated.Kind RegardsAlfRUUD Many thanks for your interest and encouraging words.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
