Hi Howard........ in the re-posting of this image you appear to have lightened and cropped the image. It is unfortunate that you didn't add this altered image to the original thread so that future posters would be able to follow and comment on the progress.

The lightening of the image has added a  little value to the heron in terms of definition. Might I suggest that you consider spot metering instead of patterned when you have a single subject.

In cropping out the second pole (on the right) you would have done well to leave the water in the foreground and remove the black blobs on the top. I think this would have given a better presentation

Hi Grayham,

That image is actually one that was more zoomed in on the bird and I did try and correct it so that more of his color was visible.  One thing I am kicking myself for is not switching to my Polarizing filter like I thought to do as I approached it and staying with the UV.  When I went to change filters it took notice of me and flew off.
