jim_j2 9 Posted November 2, 2010 I wanted to get a shot of her looking directly at me, but she was cautious and when she got my scent and heard the shutter, she bolted! The image was cropped on the right side, had too much of her body, but not her tail. Otherwise, not much editing but a little increase in saturation and sharpening. Shot at f/2.8 @ 1/160 sec with heavy overcast sky. Your comments, opinions, ratings & critiques are greatly appreciated. Link to comment
mikeosmond 0 Posted November 3, 2010 Hi Jim,Nicely caught - beatiful crisp focus and good colour saturation. The crop works for me as well though I might have preffered more of a "landscape" crop to provide more distance for her to "stare" into.Still- well caught and taken.Regards,Mike Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 304 Posted November 3, 2010 Jim, you don't have to point on the hand held stuff, we know that you have firm hands, only don't understand why not razor sharp (no hair on the nose) with only 100mm?! Ha! Cheers my friend!PDE Link to comment
James G. Dainis 302 Posted November 3, 2010 I have to admire photographers who put so much time into getting a shot and then they only get one chance at it. You were fortunate that the deer was clear of the leaves. I think showing more of the body may help with the composition although it is good the way it is. Anyone who has gone to a stand every day for a week and then when a deer finally shows up knows the anxiety one is under. "Do I take the shot now and scare away the deer or wait for it to face me and take a chance of it turning and walking away so I don't get any shot? Or do I just stick to taking photos of sunsets? At least I won't have to get up early every morning." Link to comment
jim_j2 9 Posted November 3, 2010 Thanks to everyone for their comments on this one!James,You are exactly right! Hopefully and ideally that buck will come along, . . . photographing the abundant doe's is already getting boring! But I'll stay after it! There is always some form of Wildlife, Birds, Racoons, Foxes or something that may present itself satisfactorily with enough patience and technique. Link to comment

vs1 0 Posted December 2, 2010 Hello. I'd say photo has THE thouch with the nature. Even though the frame doesn't help (too thick) a subject and BG give an observer a pleasant view. Congrats for this one, VS Link to comment
Bill J Boyd 65,239 Posted December 7, 2010 Jim...a great closeup of a doe an an Autumn day in the woods. You must have been pretty close to get that detail with a 100mm lens. Wish I lived closer to deer country. Link to comment
jim_j2 9 Posted December 8, 2010 Thanks Bill,Yes, I was fortunate in my childhood that my Dad was a good hunter, and living in Montana required "getting game to put meat on the table" in the 60's and he taught me well, I acquired some of his good hunting skills, but these day's I use those teachings mostly with camera in hand, and it sometime pays off. Thanks for looking and commenting.Jim j.
