Jim,

You have been a little overzealous with cropping the top! The perspective is really unusual and adds a touch of distortion resulting in questions from the viewer. One is left wondering, if the sadness in expression is generated through some sort of body demorphism. One thinks of fire, one thinks of sadness and there is also the thought or forlorn desire in that expression.

Your work is always of such fine quality that I suspect that the above is a question you are posing to the viewer and even the cropping aspect is all part of that question. I don't have any answers but as always, can only lend an appreciative glance at your wonderfully interesting creations.

I like the crop! I love the mass of red! Might I say, I even enjoy the previous comment. This is quite normal for you. Normal and good! That's quite unusual for you.... I mean you're not usually this normal.

Ups! Shocking composition, and emotionally well captured!

Jim, I appreciate too much the sense of the first comment, but in my starved imagination I can only see that the "cut off" of her head was a mistake from your side meanwhile you were setting the frame trough the VF.

Those things happen every day to every ones,  but doesn't matter at all, this is very appealing, a clever and creative concept. Your signature in every single pixel.

the study of the human form has been going on for centuries, starting from the fine arts and transforming itself in the medium of photography.

though a difficult subject in itself, many are tempted to try. the human form is after all very intriguing.

i notice however that many try to be different, and this is to be encouraged BUT one must be careful.  distortion can turn a beautiful human form into something not so desireble, if not grotesque.

when one looks at the nude one sees natural perfection, which in my opinion can easily be distorted, simply by using the wrong lens or viewpoint.

here a wideangle lens was used at close proximity, the face shows anguish yet  the setting has nothing to do with her expression. this photo borders on highkey which clashes with the mood of the girl.

so was the photographer trying to be different for novelty's sake?  in my opinion such a photo does no one any good. the nude has to be treated with a more classical approach and any forms of expression or mood be brought forth in a different manner, but distortion i cannot see.

i know this photographer has produced marvelous  work before and i am led to believe this was an experiment, which in my humble opinion did not go so well.

forgive me for writing this, but my schooling in fine arts tells me to comment

I looked at the comments with interest. I think the head crop is interesting lends a sense of immediacy. As far as the distortion being an issue, This is the first of your distorted nudes for which I thought the technique fit..And fit well. Thanks.

I'd like to add my opinion to this interesting debate. This composition has a beautiful cicularity which, in my opinion is flawed by the missing top.

However, I do really like the image and agree this really works with the distrorted wide angle - it speaks to me ..... something like ...."if he gets any closer with that fancy lens I will punch him on the nose ......"
