A picture very dear to me, as I decided to get a degree in biology right after taking my first moss picture.  Of course I had a botanist describing the details to me as I took it and it is the wildest thing imaginable.  It is no more implausible than robins laying eggs that hatch into squirrels and the squirrels giving birth to robins but it is that kind of detail.  I was hooked and got the degree. 

Unfortunately you needed much more depth of field in this image, especially where the sporophytes (tall and on stilts) are attached to and getting nourishment from the gametophytes (leafy looking ones that are close to flat to the surface.

I find that carrying a plain gray card (kodak 18% grey card) makes a better background than the natural woods because of all the details that end up making bokeh patterns.

thanks for the contributions. DOF on MF when using the 56T is tiny regardless of aperture setting (this was shot@f22)

i agree the bokeh on the ziess 80mm is fairly harsh here. using grey or black card is a great idea thanks for that :)

Very nice shot and once again I learned something about bokeh.  I was seeing it for what it was and though it was nice.  But the way Jerry put it really opens up something.  I like it, it's just the right ammount but maybe toned down a bit is nicer.
