Portugal (Photo of original darkroom print (1990))

Seaside fishing town and fisherman. I asked if I could take a picture (in very poor

Portugese, which he may have found insulting) but received no response or regard,

made the photo and left. I don't think he really noticed his picture was being taken. One

feels a bit of an intruder and uncomfortable in those cases. Thanks for looking.

The image works very well. There are a lot of elements in the image but they all help the solitary figure of the man stand out.

The dark blacks and the white whites with a full range of grays in between really balance the image and give it depth and interest.
