maurocarli 0 Posted August 19, 2010 Given the terrible conditions in which I took this shot (low light, no tripod, the technical limits of my camera, children and tourists moving all around, etc.), post-processing has had to be quite intense, but I feel I have managed to reproduce on this photo what could be seen in the real scene, obviously without reaching the perfection of nature close-ups obtained with more powerful cameras under better conditions. LenMarriott 9 Posted September 14, 2010 Who could resist trying to capture a find like this one? Whatever the hardships you endured to get this one to screen I think they were worth it. You've made the most of a serendipitous moment. When I first looked at this one I thought you may have desaturated the stump you found it on as the stump is so muted in comparison to the brilliant and saturated butterfly. I'm never afraid to go to the limits of my equipment; I'm more afraid of missing the shot. Sometimes, unlike your experience here, I've done both. :-) Best, LM. Link to comment
maurocarli 0 Posted September 15, 2010 I'm glad you like the photo! I haven't desaturated the stump, but I've darkened it, to make the butterfly stand-out a little more against it. The chances to take such shots were many that day, since I was at the "Casa delle farfalle" (Butterflies' house), a lovely butterfly sanctuary. The real problems lay in what I've already described: crowd, low light, no tripod, etc. Thank you for your comment! Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted September 27, 2010 Considering the conditions, excellent work. That butterfly looks like a downed kite. Link to comment
