It also reminded me of Rembrandt's style (perhaps because of the combination of dark background and rabbi's "historic" look), but the very first thought that came to my mind when I saw the thumbnail was that of Albus Dumbledore, and he still reminds of this character :)

Thanks for stopping by, your analogy made me smile.... as it is day and night differences between this Orthodox  rabbi and Harry Potter Dumbledore...The only similarity is the beard ,and here it starts and here is ends.;-)) Thanks for expressing your imagination, interesting.

This is truly outstanding, Pnina!  It has all the qualities of an old oil painting by a master painter.  It's a very contemplative and serious picture, but at the same time there is a peace and contentment exuding from him that makes me just want to keep staring at him.  You must be duly proud of this one!

I'd hope they'd share similar insight / wisdom too!  ;)

On the technical side, there are a couple of distracting things I've noticed when viewing large:

  • this fuzzy light patch running from running parallel to rabbi's beard and connecting with the glasses -- I'd just paint it over to make the background more uniformly black; and
  • the smudge running across rabbi's hat (I'm sure it has a proper name, so please excuse my ignorance in these matters) and his hair along the right edge of the image -- looks like a stroke of a 'blur' brush at too high a setting.

Christal, thanks for your nice feedback. It is one of my favorites photos, that was photographed in diffecult conditions, very nice on the print as well.

Tomek, Thanks for your follow up and your remarks. About the insight/wisdom you may be right. The photo was corrected and printed already. and the print is very nice.

Thanks again!
