This is the first of two shots of Glaciers Triple Falls taken a week

apart. Please have a look at the other one too. It's a bit scary

hiking in the dark in grizzly country.

Creatively composed, especially due to the special perspective (the waterfall is viewed in the foreground down from its edge). I can actually hear the water falling! Great lights and contrasts in lights. It is just such a beautiful scene, high motion (water flowing) versus the peaceful, shining background (the Alpine meadows and the high mountains). The bands of clouds around the twin peak mountains in the background are another pivotal eye-catcher here. Due to the wide angle, it seems as the water might flow a bit upwards the mountains in the background, but the effect does not interfere here at all. Like it very much. FAV. Bw, Volker.

What an incredible sight Fred. Beautifully photographed. You are a truely dedicated photographer to risk life and limb hiking in Grizzly country.

Birke...I see what you mean about the water flowing up. Good observation..I hadn't noticed it before. This one was a much longer exposure which had a positive effect on the cascading water and much richer colors. Thank you for the very thoughtful critique.

Hamid.......thanks again. It's nice of you to comment on both.

Linda......it really is a beautiful area. I understand now why so many photographers are drawn to it. I think the park rangers want to keep it quiet for that reason. You should see the flowers right about now. Wooo

harry.....I appreciate the comments. I tried getting this shot last year with not very good results.

Absolutely stunning image! I have never seen a waterfall quite like these. The softness of the water is beautiful, and the colors are amazing. It's a testament to your abilities that you were able to get the correct ND filter adjustment and the appropriate shutter speed for the motion blur of the water in the short amount of time that you must have had as the evening light was fading. Excellent work.

Hi Fred, yeah definitely a couple of winners from triple falls. I think I prefer this one as well. I think what tips the balance for me are the ethereal clouds on the peaks in the background. Stay safe!

Wade.....thanks very much. The spray from the water fall and breeze was fouling up the grads. I hand held them and pinched them together but somehow the spray kept getting between the filters so I was constantly wiping them dry.

Courtney.....I'm heavily leaning towards this one also and the clouds are the main reason. Thanks for commenting.

Rashed...all the best to you as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm glad you like it.

Chantelle....The light was beautiful. It was raining and thick with fog about an hour before and I didn't want to leave my pickup. I almost missed the shot.

You certainly captured this in what appears to be "perfect" conditions. I am glad you decided make the hike....this is stunning! I was drawn deep into this scene and as my eyes moved through the image I was surprised to see more and more. This is awesome front to back! I don't think the water appears to be running up...it is the lowest fall and the water from this that tricks the eye. Going into my favorites ;)

Best regards, Pamela

Lester......It's good to hear from you, thanks.

Pamela.....Thanks for the nice remarks. Once in a while everything just comes together and as a weekend photographer I was fortunate to be there. I'm tickled your are putting this into your favs.

I'm struck with a great sense of slipping into the water and being pulled into the photo.  Those clouds seem so nonchalant, kind of a sleepy detachment to all the fury below.  I've never taken these long exposure shots that give the cotton candy feel to the water, but I'm suddenly inspired to make an attempt.

Jeff....this place has made it to the top of my list of favorite places. There are probably a dozen or more other waterfalls in the immediate area with flowers everywhere. I'll probably go back every now and then just to be there. Thanks again for your thoughts. Fred
