rascal64 9 Posted July 4, 2010 Wow Alf...you've outdone yourself! This one is especially intriguing to me because of the shadows and the texture. You have done a magnificent job in maintaining the color of your shadows and the incredible texture (I am not seeing noise, artifacts etc). Of course, the perspective on the lighthouse is just perfect. And the 3 beautiful shells to tie the scene together. Top honors, my friend. Link to comment
Christa Binder 616 Posted July 4, 2010 Alf,Thanks for commenting on my Star Trails photo! I know there are a lot of comments on this photo already, but when I was looking through your portfolio this is the one that caught my eye ( although all of your photos are beautiful). I like the way that you kept the foreground dark, making the sky and the lighthouse the focus, yet still being able to see the patterns in the sand. I love the colors in the sky. Take Care. alfbailey 3 Posted July 5, 2010 TIFFANY Many thanks for your visit and very generous comments. It was the ripples in the sand that kind of tugged at my sleeve to take one last shot before departing for home. But I must give a certain amount of credit to the Nikon D700 as it seems to cope with low light extraordinarily well. Cheers Tiffany!Kind RegardsAlfCHRISTASincere thanks for your visit and very kind comments, I did take another shot just before this one, it looks a little bit lighter, but positioned slightly more to the left, but it also shows a little crescent moon, so if I get a chance I'll post that one too.Kind RegardsAlf Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted July 7, 2010 I'm really slippin Alf....don't know how I missed this shot. I find this very fascinating .....I imagine the tide is out, but never thouht it would go out for such a long distance. In my landscape inexperience, I find it quite a fantastic image, with a sunset just glorious. When I think you've only been seriously interested in Photography for about 3 years, I find your work quite outstanding. Cheers, good show! sincerely, Gail Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted July 11, 2010 Alf, you live in such a beautiful place. I really enjoy looking at your work. I have never seen anything like this scene in my part of the world. The ripples are amazing, they look like abstract waves. The way the light defines the repeat pattern in the ridges is stunning. The sprinkling of shells is such a nice touch. Then there's that incredible sunset with the silhoeutte of the lighthouse. The overall image is very dramatic and memorable. Best wishes, Linda Link to comment

alfbailey 3 Posted July 11, 2010 Humble apologies people, for such a slow response, I've been away for a few days.GAILMany thanks for your very kind words, the tide can go out for miles literally in certain flat parts of the UK. But you have to be careful when it comes in as its usually very fast! If you look to the right and beyond the lighthouse at the tiny upright marks (only just distinguishable on this size image) what you are looking at are wind turbines out at sea. I just thought I'd mention that so you have an idea of scale. It doesn't seem very long ago at all that I couldn't take a photo without getting my thumb in the shot, or cutting off the subjects head. But like most subjects I suppose, once you become interested in it, and you have enough people willing to help and pass on thier knowledge, then progress can be swift. I have been very fortunate in having people around me with that knowledge and of course people like yourself on photo.net that are always willing to help. The great thing about photography though, is it's such a complex and diverse subject, it's very unlikely I'll ever even get close to knowing it all and therefore I'll never be short of a challenge. Thanks again Gail for all your encouragement and support.Kind RegardsAlfLINDASincere thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts on this one. The ripples in the sand are caused by the movement of the receding tide, in the day time this beach would be alive with people enjoying the sun, but this is my favourite time, when all is silent except for the "swishing" sound of the sea. Cheers Linda!Kind RegardsAlfTOLOMany thanks for your visit and very kind words, much appreciated!Saludos - Alf Link to comment
