lopezslf 0 Posted May 19, 2010 This looks very Classic and modern portrait; it is great mix. I am surprised that you did not convert it to black and white. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 20, 2010 Massimiliano,Vika is a beautiful girl. You have focused well on her eyes. She has good eye contact with the camera and a pleasant expression. Her skin tone is excellent. The lighting on her face is beautifully done. Your use of shadows makes the photograph interesting and helps create a nice illusion of depth within the photograph. She is well separated from the background. Her make-up looks very good -- including the nicely color-coordinated use of toenail polish. The pearls are a nice touch with the polka dots. This is a cute pose, but her head seems to be tilted down a tad too much. You want to create a nice "S" curve through her body with a smooth flowing line. This pose seems to be a rather dated looking fashion pose rather than one for a portrait. Perhaps a bit too posed looking? It is difficult to make a full length studio shot, with the subject having eye contact with the camera (viewer), not look posed.Be careful of her left hand. The way her dress is covering part of her hand makes her hand appear a little deformed.I'm not sure Vika needs as much blank space around her as you have. I would move in to tighten the shot. I would also add some room on the right side. Your subject should have more room in front of her than behind. This allows her to be facing into the picture, not out of it. You want to compositionally balance the left and right sides of the photograph. The compositional "rule" for this suggests that you position the tip of the subject's nose in the vertical center of the photograph. With her double shadow on the floor I would have thought there would have been a little light on the right side of her hair -- at least a rim light to brighten her hair a little. She is well separated from the background, but a little light on her hair would have been nice -- just to pick up a bit more detail.I love this dress and how it looks on Vika, especially with the pearls and her open toed black shoes, but for a portrait, the polka dot pattern draws my attention away from her face. With those polka dots you are lucky you don't have a moiré pattern on her dress. The contrast of the bright light behind her on the background and her dark dress and your nice use of shadows on her body is very distracting. It is hard to see her with the brightness behind her.She needs catch lights to give her eyes life. All that advertising in the upper right is not part of the photograph. It would be quite proper to place your name on the mat. Advertisements would be better placed on the back of the photograph.Nice shot,Mark Link to comment
