PeterKrenek 26 Posted April 19, 2010 Shot about an hour after sunset to record both last remnants of the warm evening tones and the star trail. The meteor in the middle right was an unexpected extra. Your opinions and suggestions for improvement are welcome. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted April 19, 2010 Great night shot. Must be viewed large, the numerous fainter trails are superb ! I cannot offer advice for improvement, this is outstanding IMO. The pivotal point UR is placed perfectly, well chosen the low horizon, and light/ colors are fantastic. Hats off ! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 19, 2010 This is a perfect image in its class, good lighting ,good colour, perfect composition, even the little pockets of light pollution, very well done, regards,Harry Link to comment
PeterKrenek 26 Posted April 20, 2010 Carsten, Harry, thank you ! Finally I decided for this version with better separation between the mountains and the flat foreground hill. I was considering a version with detail brought up in the foreground, but abandoned it. I attach it for comparison. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted April 21, 2010 Definitively right decision. The foreground is better in the original post Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 21, 2010 Definitely better without the foreground detail,it woul have drawn the eye away from the sky, best regards,Harry Link to comment
PeterKrenek 26 Posted August 29, 2010 A note, I just had this version printed 70x90 cm (28x35 inches) and it looks marvellous on my wall with a black frame without the white line. The first image I printed so large from 6x7. Link to comment
slavomirmisko 0 Posted July 14, 2012 i was wandering of same kind of image with Tatras so far i did not do, but i see it could be worth it! only thing is to find a good spot to not catch too much light of urban life... Link to comment
PeterKrenek 26 Posted July 15, 2012 Thank you, Slavo, for your comment. Pollution with urban lights is a problem near Tatras, you can see the lights from villages even in this shot (though for me, it does not interfere here with the scenery). One thing that I can suggest is to shoot film for this kind of shots, that, due to reciprocity failure, is not as prone to overexposure in low-light very long exposures as the digital sensor. Alternatively, if I shot digital, I would stack shorter exposures to prevent burned out areas. But still, film is the preferred medium for me - currently for this kind of shots only. Otherwise I am very satisfied that I have gone digital. There are many meadows under the Tatras from which you can shoot. This one was south of Tatranska Lomnica. Best regards. Peter Link to comment
