Owls crack me up, especially when they stand erect like this with their eyes wide open. They have such priceless expressions on their face.

 

I don't like them in the middle of the road, however. My wife were driving home one night and smacked a huge barn owl with the front of my Jeep as it flew right in front of us. It broke the grill and busted one of the headlights. Needless to say, the owl did not fare nearly as well. I was picking owl feathers out of the engine compartment for about two weeks. :-)

Beautiful eyes indeed! I love these burrowing owls and would die just to get a shot of them, the great thing about owls is that they always look at you when being photograph, hence great eye contact. Excellent lighting, low angle and bg.

It's on the home page of PN today, cool. I would say you should have shot it as a verticle though, a lot of wasted space in this format. Would have kept you in the image longer. Cheers.
