There's no reason why I like this but there's a simplicity to it the belies an extraordinary perception of photographic possibilities. I love the tones. Tones, tones, tones.

The first word that crossed my mind trying to describe what I am looking at was 'ephemeral': the tones, the steps of the staircase, the cloth, all implying the relentless passage from one state to the next. Best, Nassos

Alberto: I'm thrilled that you found this interesting.

Jack: Some of my favorite photographs are about nothing at all. I wasn't sure why I liked this one either, but I did. Thanks.

Nassos: Sometimes the meaning of a photo springs up much later. This fell into that category. A throwaway shot, but somehow some meaning, similar to your interpretation, began to peek through.

Mari: Thanks so much. It's a weird subject matter, but I'm a weird dude sometimes.

This rag has a life to it....or maybe a ghost...this rag used to have another purpose, and it does not wan to let that go.

Hi Jeff - My immeadiate thought to this one was of a half asleep climb upstairs after a long day, and glimpsing the dropped rag or article of clothing through heavy eyes. Too tired to pick it up, but maybe time for a photograph . . .

Keep tweaking my imagination! Best, David

An almost unexplainable amount of emotion from a relatively simple scene. The sign of a true artist with a camera.

There's a true sense of abseiling motion here, like someone's dragging us down into the darkness of our being, willing to devour the remnants of an unknown past, and then clear up the steps for anyone who's decided to scale.Best regards and Happy Easter.

Do you know that this picture is truly artistic? It's minimalistic to the extreme but it has plenty of infos and plenty of emotions. I do not see it as a rag but as a garnment, something very human and fragile and almost sexual. Geez, that'it I've lost it..That might sound weird and reveal aspects of my subconscious I'd be advised to keep under wraps but I say that knowing it is not devious...sexual is not the proper term actually, erotic would be better. I am sorry Jeff, maybe that is inapropriate. It looks as if you've been using those funky baby lenses. I am tempted to buy a set to create picture just like yours. http://www.lensbaby.com/

Tatjana: Thanks.

Linda M: Alas, my poor T-shirt, reduced to such a state!

Michael: Thanks.

David W: You've captured the mood perfectly. The rag lived in that same spot for awhile before someone put it out of its misery (and put it in the laundry).

Trisha: Thanks so much for your sweet comment.

Kent: Thanks so much. I've always admired your approach to photography, and I appreciate the thumbs up.

Photis: I like how you've captured a sense of passive inevitability. What a trip you described.

El: Making lemonade out of lemons, as I do.

Alberta: You should see the photos of our bath sponge. Absolutely scandalous.

A.K.: Thanks. I was happy that the tones turned out so well.

Pascal: Your comments always make me smile. I know that you don't offer hollow praise, so I appreciate (and am entertained) by your comments immensely. And I like that you give uncensored, enthusiastic reactions, which I appreciate.

There's a gritty sensuality here, very compelling for me. It's like a cloth slinky. There's movement captured, implied, and suggested, in the blur, the steps, the folds. It also conveys mood. I like this one and I like the place it takes among your other work.

This is what photography should be all about. An emotion, a feeling, a message, a lead ready to be interpreted by the viewers (or are we participants of the story told?)

Congrats, this is one I would love to have done.

I like how that little curl of fabric is in focus, also the step above it as the rest of the fabric seems to be sliding, disappearing into the blurry stair below. One arm of the rag is sliding down into the darkness below. It is like seeing time pass, the creation of a remnant. A bit of human residue left behind, disappearing. I find it interesting, original and haunting.

Fred: Thanks. I think this has a quiet, simple feel to it that I'd like to pursue more.

Joao: I'm not sure what drove me to take this picture, but it felt important at the time. Thanks.

Linda D: It kind of felt like whatever this rag once was is no longer. I like your interpretation.

Brad: I think this was a Lensbaby shot, which accounts for the weird blurring. Thanks.

Wonderful work, Jeff. This is delicate and the lighting is great. I like the DOF. What a story this could make.

Jeff, you are making into a true believer in the art of black and white photography. I've dabbled in it in the past but see your work leaves me speechless.
