Trees in the mist..

stephen_ellaway

This beautiful beech wood was near the North-East coast of England and every so often the 'sea frets'; a thin luminous sea mist, would roll in and create this eerie and mysterious light.Native beechwoods are becoming very rare in England and, as I hope this image reveals, that is a great shame.I made the photo. on Agfa pan 50 b&w film (down rated to 25 a.s.a. ) on a medium format camera for 1 sec. @ f 22, and 'pulled' the development one stop to allow for the high contrast of the scene.Thank you so much for your comments...I'm a bit overwhelmed!

I've rarely seen such a beautifully mysterious depiction of tree formations within photonet, or anywhere for that matter. Excellent grayscale tonality and composition.

I love the mystic shot. The mood is just great with the "mist". That "light" at the end of the road gives me the bumps... Love it!!

This is what photography is all about, it is one of the best pictures of trees/forest I have ever seen. Truly great! (I note you come from Derbyshire, would this be Sherwood forest in Nottinghamshire? One can imagine Robin Hood hiding out here).

Excelelnt shot Stephan. I am curious about the light source(s) as there appear to be more than one. It doesn't take away from the image, I'm just curious. It's a little heavy to the right, but still very nice.

All has been said by others allready: mysterious, well balanced, good light, scary, fantastic. So what more to say than congratulations. Wish it was my shot.

By far the best image I have seen on Photo Net. This guy really knows what he is doing in the darkroom. I can feel the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. Stephen simply awesome.

This is a wonderful photograph. I may be prejudiced but I love bad weather; rain, fog, snow, etc. This looks like a place I'd love to be. One might expect the headless horseman come a gallopin' down that trail at any minute.

Yes. Brilliant. The richness and variety of tones, the shapes and textures; the two dark lines of wheel tracks leading to the bright light in the distance; this is an image your eyes can feast on.
