martin nelson 0 Posted March 14, 2010 Alf, It is a point of view that many people do seem to hold. In fact there seems to have been some trouble with the new Museum building. Apparently it is breaking a rather obscure law about the sightlines of the Port of Liverpool building. I'm not sure how they are getting around it but there are many people saying it should never have ben built in the first place. Looking at the new waterfront I think the other problem is the way the newer buildings are lit. The old buildings are lit in a way that seems to enhance their aesthetics, whereas the newer buildings seem to be lit with harsher white lighting. Link to comment
papasan 0 Posted March 14, 2010 I'm a big fan of night shots, and like the clean lines of this photo, and the clarity of your focus. Nice colors and exposure. Too bad you could not get a reflection but i think as long as the water is moving and you have waves in the currents the long exposure will probably fuzz the reflection up. The colors are reflected in the water, only the forms are not very defined, but that to me adds to the beauty of this shot. It provides a nice foreground without with interesting colors but not too much distraction. Regards - michel Link to comment

barrie_roberts 0 Posted March 14, 2010 Hi Alf I thought as i am working alternative nights for this week on a special i would go down to woodside and then go over to Liverpool with my camera and take some photos ,this was at 3-30am no way, a gale force wind with a fair chill factor my tripod shaking so i gave up ,i have 3 more nights to try and capture so wish me luck ,regarding the comments of Martin you have toned the lighting down on the buildings quite a bit at least it seems so from last night, keep clicking ,Barrie Link to comment
alfbailey 4 Posted March 15, 2010 MARTIN You have a good point about the newer buildings lighting, the older building have subdued indirect lighting for the most part, that accentuate the colours and textures of the buildings, whereas some of the newer building have that "white" light as you have mentioned, that is directed in a lot of cases straight outwards without the benefit of being diffused in the first place. MICHEL Thanks for looking in. It can be difficult to get a good reflection with the river moving so fast,or with the wind disturbing the surface, the river is about 2.7 km wide at this point ( though I wouldn't know if thats 100% accurate) and I took the shot with a 55 -200mm lens. but I hope to go back at some point at dusk so I can also get more definition in the sky next time. I'm really pleased you liked it Michel Thank you. JORGE I really appreciate your kind comments, thanks for stopping by. JANNICA It is always good to hear from you, and I appreciate all your expert advice, suppport and encouragement. Sincere Thanks and warm regards from your good friend in the UK. JOHN. That winds been bitterly cold, so down by the ferry it would be cutting through you like a knife, and at 3.30 am in the morning it doesn't bear thinking about brrrrrrr! My only advice is to get one of them hats with the ear flaps, I've got one and it does keep me warm, yeah ok maybe I look like an escaped russian convict in it, but as i'm never usually taking photo's of myself I don't care! : - ) Thank you for your comments and very best of luck Barrie with your Liverpool expedition...........I'll be thinking of you as I retreat further under the quilt! Sincere Thanks and Kind Regards To All Alf Link to comment

johnroberts 0 Posted March 20, 2010 Just catching up with things on the site and with your latest shots. Lovely low light image with subtle illumination from the lights to show the shape and identity of the buildings. BTW, it appears there is another John Roberts on the site, we are obviously a common lot !!!!! Regards....John Link to comment
