I'm hoping I can get a bit of good advice to improve my photography skills so that I can

in turn take better pictures. My family and friends are probably a bit biased, so I'm

looking for outside, honest opinions.

So please, fire away.

Wilson, your flower itself is gorgeous, think you should give some consideration to removing the white from left side of image, don't think it would hurt to also balance up image with frame, perhaps a wee crop on both bottom and top. A play with contrast might also help, but for me i really like the mood of your flower the way it is. On looking at image more, think would try a sq format. All just suggestions of course.

Wilson, I agree with Roger. The flower is wonderful. DOF is very nice. The white in the upper left is a little distracting and takes away from the focus on the main image. A bit more cropping on the left and raise the flower up in the frame some and you'll have an excellent image. Very well done as is. Delightful to view. Congrats.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I've made a few edits, and 2 new versions on my page. Out of the 3, I do prefer the square layout.

Many, many thanks to each of you for your advice, they all are all appreciated.

I rarely disagree with Roger, but in this instance I respectfully have a difference in opinion. I think this is a wonderful artistic shot. Normally I too would consider cropping out the top-left white shape; but for some reason I think it works great here. It gives the shot a sense of mystery in my opinion. It's so abstract that it makes me wonder if it's a window or a door.... Regardless, fantastic shot. My only recommendation would be to print it, sign it, and frame it.

David

I agree with removing the white from the left side . The flower is very abstract looking and makes for a lovely image .

The more I look at this one, the more I like it. I can see how cropping it works, but at the same time, I really like how the stamens show against the white. I appreciate all the input from everyone.

- Roger, I'd forgotten to mention that after cropping it, I'd also made a few tweaks.

I'm hoping to find some more flowers about, as they are my most patient subject. I thoroughly appreciate your advice (as well as everyone else's :) )

- David, I have already ordered a print of both versions for my mom.

Happy shooting!
