Very dramatic image Alf. This has a gloomy, haunted look to it. Beautiful building. I can see why it attracted your attention. Excellent HDR work.

All the best,

Neil

Thank you for stopping by and for your kind words, the "gloomy look" was very much intentional, it was a straight choice between this and a pale, insignificant white featureless sky (my pet hate as you may have guessed) so the darker brooding sky won hands down.

Wonderful Alf. You're so right it sometimes is very hard to find something to shoot without all the wires and poles in the way. Great color also.

That is quite a wonderful piece of architecture you have found. I would love to see you photograph this some shot at twilight with storm clouds in the background. A black and white image under those circumstances would be an awesome shot. I'll be watching.

Lovely to hear from you, I hope you are keeping well, telephone wires are my pet hate, along with yellow lines on road surfaces, litter, ariels....actually I better stop there the list is endless! :- ) I'm really pleased you liked it Holger Thank you for your kind comments.

The church is only 10 minutes from where I live, but I only recently discovered it. It is a relatively modern church, but has some great features, I do intend to go back in the not too distant future and take a look at the inside. The dusk shot that you mentioned was something that I had considered and planned to action, but I hadn't thought about B & W but now you come to mention it, yeah it's a great Idea, I will give that a try. Thank you for imput and kind comments Shawn, Much appreciated.

Very nice HDR results, Alf. The composition was well-planned and has pleasant spacing.

If you don't mind my saying, the building color stands out a little too much from the background, producing a slightly artificial feel, but perhaps this is exactly what you intended.

Thank you for looking in and for your kind words and observations, HDR does tend to accentuate colour and the grey background makes it even more prominent, but I quite like it that way. The Church looks quite nice in it's natural colours also, but maybe not quite as interesting

Thank you for your very kind words, I can see why you would make that comment about the tree branches, and normally I would agree with you, but in this case I cropped out an unwanted part of the image.

I always feel that if people take the time and trouble to comment, the least I can do is acknowledge thier comments with a response, as I know you do yourself.

Hi Barrie, your journey to work 6 days a week actually by - passes Hooten Church, so I'll give you directions, it's very easy to find. Going back home from Bromborough, instead of taking the Welsh Road, carry on up the A41 towards Little Sutton, you will pass a Garden Centre on your right, then just after that you will see the Church and the Golf Club on your left, it is quite misleading, it is called Hooten Church buut it is actually nearer to Little Sutton. Hope this Helps. ( I actually think Everton might do it too)

Sincere Thanks and Warm Regards To All

Lovely PP work...I truly wish to aspire to this Alf.....you've made this image so dramatic. The attention to detail just blows me away........odd feels wierd...David Orea was the first to comment on this shot, and he is no longer with us........a kind man who also appreciated your very talented skills in this area.......sincere regards, Gail

Striking picture, congratulations.

Just a word on the composition. The cross at the top of the tower is pushing the photo boundary, giving an oppressive sense. Tilting the camera downwards would have cut away the green which contributed nicely to the color contrast. One solution would be framing the picture vertically. Which solves the boundary issue at the top and enhances the span of the green lawn.

Of course, it is just a subjective call.

Many thanks for your visit and feedback, it really is appreciated. I agree with you about the church spire it does push the boundaries somewhat and ideally would be better with more space around it. The suggestion of a portrait shot is also a good and valid point. my only problem with achieving such a shot on that particular day was that this was I didn't use a tripod and the only way I could keep the camera perfectly still for a bracketed shot, was to balance it on a bench,  this would have been inpossible in portrait mode due to the shape of the camera, but I do take your point, it is worth bearing in my mind on my next visit.

Kind Regards

Alf
