bread shutter 0 Posted January 30, 2010 The figurehead embodied the spirit of a ship and was originally believed to placate the gods of the sea and ensure a safe voyage. Almost every prow had a carved figure looking down at the waves, and the variety was immense. model vixx inspired by the "Kings of Leon" track "closer" best viewed large thanks for looking Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 31, 2010 B, Thank you for explaining the purpose of the photograph. It provides a very good reason for the unusual forward pose and the ships in the background to be in focus. It all fits very nicely with your theme. You have done a wonderful job depicting your interesting idea. She is a beautiful girl You have focused well on her eye. Her face is nicely separated from the dark background. Her skin tone is very good as is the lighting. She has applied her make-up very well. You have her leaning forward, with her head stretched out which depicts the figurehead of a ship very well. Her hair blending into the black behind her is needed to imply that there may be something that is behind her (perhaps her ship). It bothers me that strap is not pulled all the way through the buckle on her collar. I think your top and bottom compositional balance is very good, but this feels quite right heavy. Your subject should have more room in front of her than behind. This allows her to be facing into the picture, not out of it. You want to compositionally balance the left and right sides of the photograph. The compositional "rule" for this suggests that you position the tip of the subject's nose in the vertical center of the photograph. I would crop a little off the left, but also extend the right some. The ships are too near the right side. They are sailing out of the photograph. I am assuming that the names at the bottom right corner are in reference to a photography studio or business. They are not part of the photograph. The photographer's name could be properly placed on the mat. I would place any advertising on the back of the photograph. Nice shot, Mark -- Link to comment
