This was taken at the Cuyamaca Water Conservation Garden near San Diego, California. I had to lie down on the sidewalk in order to frame this rusty sculpture against the uniformly cloudy San Diego sky. This is NOT a black and white image. If you look closely, you can discern just a touch of the rusty color of the butterfly. Compositionally, I wish I had shifted position just a skosh to obtain a bit of visual separation between the end of the right-hand antennae and the curved rod holding the butterfly up. By the way, this sculpture is about six feet across and was beautifully constructed. Cheers! Chris

I love this! What a cheerful and artsy image! I love the way you've placed it in the space, but I think you could still maintain that by taking a smidge off the top and right. At least I liked it. Also, I tried this with a black frame and it was even more dynamic. It's such a simple but very effective shot, Chris. Thanks....I had fun 'playing' with this one.....and I never could tell that it wasn't a B&W.

"In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" was a fixture in our family when I was a wee lad. A close friend of my parents used to belly dance to the drum solo when he had a little too much to drink. This is very stylish Chris. I like all of your recent "experiments" with the camera. It's a good idea to play with our tools; it freshens our minds about the concept of photography. I should do more stuff like this to avoid getting boxed in. Kudos to you for getting out of the box!
