Ripples and sand

bmatt

I scanned the image myself on a Nikon Coolscan III. No photoshop processing except unsharp mask and a tiny cropping.

Beautiful. I really like how those plants have this curved lines that complement the curves drawn in the sand. The sand's lines are perpenticular to the direction of the plants curves, and that makes it very interesting.

I also like very much the solitude of the plant in the middle, as opposed to most of the others, that are closer together (or at least seem so in the picture). Then we have the shadow of this central plant, that goes towards the corner of the picture, not following any of the other lines found in the picture, adding a nice and interesting feature.

I don't know if I would have liked to see the sand in the foreground in focus or not, I guess I would have to compare this version with the other, hypothetical one to decide.

I do think that it would be nicer to see the central plant a little bit brighter, or something like that. Right now it gets somewhat lost, and it doesn't stand out as much as I would like. Of course, I guess it would have been quite difficult to have this plant with a better light, given the time of day (and I do think that this time with the sun at a low position is the best for this photograph, as it helps to reveal the texture in the sand and the curves there). Then there is this sort of purple spot along the curve of the central plant... is it a solar flare? It sort of distracts very slightly as one follows this curve, but it doesn't get annoying.

If you have gotten this far reading, thanks for paying attention :) Anyway, it's just my personal opinion, and I am not too experienced...

Great image, best regards,

What do you think about the different type of curves that I tried to use in this picture? (i.e. the sand, the plants). I agree with the comments, that the front plant should be more prominent and that I should get rid of the flare (I didn't wanted to touch too much the image in Photoshop).

Thank you for the comments! Marcelo, I agree with you, if the plant was bigger or lighter it would give more prominance... The purple dot, as Vishal and Jeffrey pointed out, is a flare (I made a 20x30cm print and it's very noticeable there). I just didn't removed it because I didn't wanted to alter the image too much, its own imperfections make it special to me :)
