I am a COMPLETE beginner. Bought my first camera about 3 weeks ago.

I don't really know anything about photography or photo editing.

I've taken about 300 pictures, of which I have kept a total of 4.

This is 1 of those 4, and I kind of like it.

ID really appreciate any constructive criticism.

I'm not sure about the composition. I would like to see more of your cat. I do like the pleasing out of focus background elements but because of the composition, they compete with the subject and cause me to search around the photograph rather than YOU leading me to something.

Overall, I find the photograph appealing despite the compositional issues.

On another note, I would recommend not discarding photographs you've taken but dislike for one reason or another. Each and every one of them is a learning tool and an opportunity for you to evaluate your progress. Storage is cheap these days, a dedicated external drive just for your photos will be invaluable to your progress as a photographer. I go back and look at things I did years ago, sometimes I ask myself what I was thinking, other times I realize that my photo editing skills and software have advanced to a point where what was once an eyesore is now a [highly subjective] work of art.

Just keep shooting. I perused your portfolio and see you have a number of very well thought out images. You clearly have the ability to compose, even your cat, this composition was a choice you made, it doesn't work for me but I appreciate that you had a vision in mind and executed.
