My 8 y-o daughter is growing so fast...

Just in time I purchased a brand new Nikon 85mm/1.4 AF-D and decided to try it

before it's too late.

Critiques are always welcome.

Sergio,

This little 'heartbreaker to be' is a real cutie! You have focused well on her eyes. The background is nicely out of focus. She has good eye contact with the camera (viewer) and a cute expression.

You have good catch lights, but I would prefer a single circle at about the 10 or 2 o'clock position on her irises.

Be careful of her skin tone. It is a little yellow. You want to compositionally balance the left and right sides of the photograph. The compositional "rule" for this suggests that you position the tip of the subject's nose in the vertical center of the photograph. You could move her a little to her left.

I am not sure I like her hand in the background. It seems a little out of place. Having your daughter lean into the photograph seems a bit awkward, also. She seems a little off balance.

I don't see a good reason to have any of her out of focus. An out of focus background is very nice and focuses attention on your subject. Parts of your subject out of focus will draw attention away from what is in focus. It is difficult to go wrong with having the entire subject in focus.

That is a festive looking bow, but anything that draws attention away from the subject's face is not good.

Your name is not part of the photograph. It would be appropriate to place it on the mat.

Nice shot,

Mark

What a beautiful image. Yo caught this one just right great color, sharp focus on the eyes, a catch light in the eyes and the DOF makes her face pop off the page.

Outstanding! You cannot ask for a better picture.
