jimvanson 0 Posted February 3, 2003 This was taken one summer evening just before the sun set. It was one of the few times I wished I was shooting color film...the light was awesome. I've never been able to print this shot properly, or at least the way that I remember it...I probably tried 6 or 8 times in the wet darkroom. This is the third try digitally...It still ain't right. I don't believe the fault lies with the neg...That seems good. Guess it's my memory or my limited skills with PhotoShop. I also posted the original neg and a hand color version. *ALL* suggestions welcome! Tkx...jim Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted February 3, 2003 It works wonderfully for me: meaning that I wonder in front of such a powerful image. And I don't mind not having it in the glowing and mellow colours of the setting sun since my imagination can wander and wonder!. Link to comment
r.m. 8 Posted February 3, 2003 I think this works in B&W as well. While I like the close crop, I think I might have preferred a bit more space in front of him...maybe even to the tip of the lower headdress feather. Also the original negative appears a bit "smoother" for lack of a better word. Is that just a function of scanning a negative vs printing & then scanning? Forgive my naivete, just curious :). jimvanson 0 Posted February 3, 2003 Reina...feel free to crop the original...I'm still not happy with my cropped version. Link to comment
r.m. 8 Posted February 3, 2003 PS - LOL! Jim, I just went to browse through this folder, and find that you have an identical crop in a colored version....oh brother, please forgive me! Next time I'll be sure to check all uploaded versions :). Link to comment
jimmcnitt 0 Posted February 4, 2003 An absolutely overpowering portrait, Jim. And Tri-X in full sun at that! I would venture that this is one of those images where camera angle and cropping are everything. With the lens a little higher and pulled back a couple of feet you would have... well... another tourist snapshot of a Tlinkit elder. You have a real gift for transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary! See ya round campus. Link to comment
oliver_indra 0 Posted February 4, 2003 Good perspective! I personally would like to see more of his neck. His chin looks a litte bit like he is lying on the bottom frameline of the pic. And I love the DOF! Grees, Link to comment
david_wilcock 0 Posted February 4, 2003 you added the glint in his right eye right? it didn't seem right, because his eye is in shadow. a bit too 'perfect'? Link to comment

artofheadshots 0 Posted February 25, 2003 have to tell you that this is one of my favourite images in photo.net. You have captured the elders, wisdom, determination, and also an aura of love and restlessness. I also like the fact that he looks like he is looking towards the future. In my view the image is perfect as it is but since you offered us to try and play with it. I did... Link to comment
