Thanks for commenting on this. I didn't know if anyone would. I think it gets better marks for the concept than for its photographic content. Nevertheless, I wanted to enter something in the Monthly Photo Contest, and I didn't have any abstract pictures that met the criteria (recently shot).....so I went out in my yard the other day and started shooting, came in and played a bit with filters, and this is what I came up with. Mike, I see that you have an entry this month as well.......beautiful hibiscus, as I recall. I think this contest is a good idea. It challenges the photographer to do something specific, and it's good for me to have an 'assignment'. Sometimes that's the only way I'll get out to shoot unless I'm on vacation.

I just went to look at the Monthly Photo Competition entries, and this seems to have disappeared from there. It was definitely there the other day because I checked after I submitted it. I wonder what is going on? This is just as abstract as many of the other entries, but I wonder if they removed it because it 'didn't fit the theme'. I've put in a question to the forum to ask what happened to this image.

Not only does it burn! Christel, it seems to also drip liquid. Wonderful combination of fire and water. Toast to you. Im indeed also happy to have found YOU on this site. :-)

Interesting about the MPP. I, too, was worried that mine wouldn't be "abstract" enough but thought it fit as well as others, especially given the scope of expectations (see below). Anyway, well worth going for an explanation.... Mike

This month, let's all stop chasing that "tack sharp" photo or striving for the perfect pose for a portrait. Why not try working with color and form instead? Abstract can mean many things, out of focus, blurry, blocks of color, shadows of light and dark, the door is open to just about anything. --- emphasis mine - Mike

I have not looked at this month's project but based upon what I have read from your description of it I would say that you have contributed and excellent entry. Your subject line for the work is perfect and you have done and admirable job with the photograph for doing it on the fly. Very nice work.

The glow created by the blurred background leaves is perfect. It reminds me of a warm fire, roasting marshmallows, and telling ghost stories.

Perfect title for this beautiful composition, Christal. The scene, colors and DOF are great. Excellent shot! Best regards

i doubt it was "removed." there was probably an error of some sorts because this fits perfectly with the theme.

these leaves seem to be actually burning. well done.
