Not Here 93 Posted September 27, 2009 Dick... A perfect b/w image with excellent tones, detail and composition. The feeling of depth is amazing. Really well done... Mike Link to comment
timzeipekis 5 Posted September 28, 2009 I agree with Mike, and the dark sky really makes the lighthouse "pop". Looks great! Link to comment
knobby6 1 Posted September 28, 2009 I'm not really big on B & W, but this has a 3D quality to it. Great dynamic range and very nicely composed. Link to comment
elportebonheur 0 Posted September 28, 2009 A b/w delicacy - specially when seen large. Compliments - El Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted September 28, 2009 Thank you very much, Mike, Tim, Monte and El! I've been enjoying my Sigma wide zoom:-) Work has been consuming a lot of my time and I'm heading to DC this week to try to talk some sense into Congress over this health reform stuff...what a mess! Anyway, so nice to hear from all of you! Dick Link to comment

timkeller 0 Posted October 15, 2009 This one's a gem, Dick, with sumptuous black-and-white rendering and that powerful composition of diagonal lines...wonderful! Link to comment

jbm 0 Posted November 3, 2009 I agree with, Tim. Great shot. How did you get the sky that way? Filter? Grad? Anyway it looks wonderful. Cheers, Jay Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted November 3, 2009 Hello, Jay! And thanks! This was taken with the Sigma 10-20 with no filters. The sky adjustment was done by decreasing the blue intensity in the monochrome mixer in Aperture. You have to be careful with it or it starts to look overdone. Pushing up the red and adding a bit of contrast and vibrancy helps. I also tweak the luminance levels a bit until it looks just right. The tough problem for me is that the iMac monitor is so nice and bright...everything just looks better on it. Good to hear from you! Dick Link to comment
