An attempt at a candid outdoor portrait shot. He was too engrossed in

his subject to notice me at all!! Any comments are most welcome...

Very nice spontaneous portrait. You can see that he is deep in thought. Appears like it could use a bit of brightening.

Underexposed. It appears as if the bright background inflated the light reading, underexposing the subject. Spot metering the subject, or zooming in to max focal length or moving closer, reading the subject, locking the exposure, then recomposing would eliminate this most prevalemnt and disturbing of photo errors.

The somewhat murky look of the figure can be fixed by playing with brightness/contrast (or by stretching the PSP's histrogram and playing with gamma - see sample). If the background becomes too overexposed you could make it entirely white.

It hits my feelings, but I don't know how exactly...

Deep!

I like, MUCH more the original. I think is much better than the alternative uploaded version

Sameer, Good environmental portrait but the bright snow tends to compete with your subject for attention. With his dark clothing and a dark background his face would then attract the eye as it should. Tone the background down if you can. A tighter crop of the face might also work but then you'd lose the camera, an important element in this composition. Best to pay close attention to the background BEFORE you trip the shutter. Best, LM.

Thanks Len. Your advice makes perfect sense...I should have paid closer attention to the background...I was in a hurry to get the shot before he moved on... :)

Sameer, Sometimes we have to act or we lose the moment. You did the right thing. My observations refer to a perfect world:) Best, LM.
