katherinemichael 0 Posted August 31, 2009 A very healthy adult American Alligator. I wanted it to be dark, but is it too dark? Any critiques or ratings are appreciated. Link to comment
corbin 0 Posted August 31, 2009 I like your idea, and I think the lighted side is very good, but I would like a bit more detail and contrast on the shade side, especially the right side of the head and the foot. Link to comment
katherinemichael 0 Posted September 1, 2009 Thanks for the critique Claude. That is pretty much what I was thinking, that I might have gone too far on the dark. I didn't do much work to this, just the very basics so I might open it back up and do some more detailed work in that front area. Thanks! Katherine Link to comment
jerrymat 5 Posted September 1, 2009 One way to decide about tonality is to look at the histogram of the image. I uploaded one made by P/S for you to see. Notice that while you have not overexposed any tones on the right, the highlights, you have cut off the dark grays abruptly on the left, meaning that you go from dark black to black with no intermediate tones. Also, as most of your tones are in the darkest third of the histogram it makes for a very dark picture. Regards, Jerry Link to comment
katherinemichael 0 Posted September 1, 2009 Thanks Jerry. I wanted to to be very dark, to where most of the attention was on the left side of the gator. However, I think you were both right about not having enough range on the right side, its too black. I created a new version this morning and posted it for critique. Its still very dark like I wanted but I think there is better detail on the right side of the gator. Please check that one out and let me know your opinion. Link to comment
