bosshogg 4 Posted August 15, 2009 I very much like the framing here and that profoundly luscious greenish body of water. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 18, 2009 Has a bit of a Hockney feel to it which, from me, is a compliment because I like Hockney but also think you've provided a personal flair. The shadows are particularly big and particularly effective, the composition is quite nice and you've got a nice contrast of warm and cool colors but, like Hockney, even the cool colors exude some warmth. The geometry is nicely offset by the asymmetry both of the shadows and of the two people. Even with a distant perspective, there's a sense of boldness to the composition and a clarity of the two people who exist within this grand environment for the moment. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted August 19, 2009 The geometric slicing and dicing of the world is effective--and in and of itself makes the shot interesting. I then attend to the human element, a couple languidly lingering, hoping to catch some rays. But that looming shadow intrudes and gives evidence of what is not directly presented in the shot. The outside world lurks, ready to interrupt their peace. An entire storyline you've captured here, plot and subplot. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted August 21, 2009 Great composition amd wonderful Mediteranean colors, Laurent. This is a very sophisticated photo. No casual photograher would ever come up with anything like this beautifully balanced and nuanced shot. Link to comment
laurentlacoste 0 Posted August 27, 2009 Amal, thanks a lot. Unfortunately, the picture doesn't do justice to the beauty of the Mediterranean sea. That blue/green color was incredible under the summer sun.David, thanks. My eyes were attracted first by the geometric pattern of the premises and by the gorgeous color of the sea. I then caught a glimpse of the couple, both dressed alike and saw a photo opportunity. My final hesitation before clicking was on how much I wanted the sea to appear in the frame vs the terraces.Fred, thanks for the very nice words and the compliment. I'm nowhere near as thinking of comparing myself to such a great artist as Hockney, but it is true that I can't help leaning toward "warm". I just can't help it. Jeff, thank you. What else can I ask for? A pic with good looks, meaningful and story-telling. You made my day.Jack, I certainly don't deserve such kind words. I quite liked this pic too, but it didn't do as well as the two others in the folder when I posted it. Link to comment
