This image has great color but there is something that is not right when it comes to the details. Was the image cropped heavily? the heron looks what I would call pasty.Or it might be the 70-300.

Gail, Fabrizio, Al, Mauro, Andrew, Roger - thanks very much for your positive comments and very generous ratings.

Roger - nothing 'pasty' IMHO - about this image. I cropped a little at the bottom and at the left but that is it. When I paste things in and alter an image from what I saw, I usually put (Dig Alt = Digital Alteration) ) in the title. This bird was not easy to photograph because it spooks easily, was always on the move and I have many shots that I would consider failures but I got lucky with this one.

I had this image twice. I decided to get rid of one and paste all of the comments here from the one being deleted:

Tony.. shutter speed is not so high ( 1/60 ), but the bird in case of focusing, this also gave a very beautiful motion in the surface of water, really great. Amazing colors and isolation. Best regards

Beautiful catch. Great focus and sotf DoF. This would appear to be a relatively small heron. Not sure but the rock or concrete piece on the left may be a bit of a distraction. All the best. - Charles

Museeb - I had Nikon's Vibration Reduction on which would help to produce a sharper image.

Jamie - Glad you liked it.

Patsy - Thanks for visiting.

Charles. Thanks for the critique. I thought about cloning out the concrete on the right but decided against it. Now that you mention it and I see that 'undefined' light stuff on the concrete, i will clone it out of the next version.

PS Not sure why it is called a Green Heron

I tried a little research as to why it is called Green heron and while i was not successful, this is what I found:

" The Green Heron is one of the few tool-using birds. It commonly drops bait onto the surface of the water and grabs the small fish that are attracted. It uses a variety of baits and lures, including crusts of bread, insects, earthworms, twigs, or feathers.

The Green Heron is part of a complex of small herons that sometimes are considered one species. When lumped, they are called Green-backed Heron. When split, they are the Green Heron, the widespread Striated Heron, and the Galapagos Heron.

As is typical for many herons, the Green Heron tends to wander after the breeding season is over. Most wanderers probably seek more favorable foraging areas and do not travel far, but occasionally some travel greater distances, with individuals turning up as far as England and France".

Hi Tony,
This is a beautiful image of the heron with very nice blurred background. The bird looks sharp & the light is pleasing.

Best regards

Sagnik
