Very well done. You have captured those first rays spilling over the mountains in the cool stillness of the dawn in a most inviting manner. The thin line of light hitting the far shore of the lake divided the peaks and their reflection nicely. I have always been fond of that transitional effect of light penetrating water to reveal the shallows and then slowly morphing to a mirror state as it moves outwards. The zone near the right hand side of the reflected peaks is particularly attractive with both the reflection and transmission holding equal sway. The colours are also quite lovely.

The composition itself, does not impact me strongly in either direction. The conveyance of that early dawn calm supersedes any other considerations.

Really superb! This is the 2nd mountain reflection shot I've commented on today! I like that the lower layer of mountains are also reflected in the water.....you've retained them and didn't let them be in total darkness. Colors and lighting are excellent. Bravo!

Thanks Everyone!

Gordon, I too am enamoured of images that show a transition from seeing through clear water into a full reflection.

Wonderful capture! The reflection is so crystal clear and you can count the stones in the lake. Excellent work and kudos. Oh, just put this one in my favorites...RAY

Stellar light and colors, perfect timing. My only nit would be the brightness of the reflection: I guess it was a grad ND, but I would prefer a more realistic, slightly darker reflection

Raymond, thanks!

Carsten, you're correct. This was filtered with a 3-stop hard grad (if memory serves). In fact, it was over-filtered and I have lightened the sky a fair bit in post-production.

Paying attention to the alpenglow on the peaks, I was fairly content that I had balanced the exposure. But, you're right. When I look at the blue of the sky, the reflection is brighter than the water. That does, indeed trouble me a little. I will work up a slightly darker reflection and post it soon.

I do think it's an improvement. And this is just one more example of why I love this site so much......watching you great photographers throw around ideas. I learn so much from watching and 'listening'. Thanks!

I like you reworking. On of the results is that the contrast between the reflection and transmission seem more abrupt and hence a bit more dramatic.
