iancoxleigh 0 Posted July 28, 2009 Very nice! I love the cloud-like appearance of the surf. The very unsaturated appearance of the water really causes the rocks to pop out. What do you think of this without the horizon (cropped in the grey area)? Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted July 28, 2009 Thanks Ian. I thought long and hard about the sky and ultimately left it. Without sky, it became a little unbalanced top and bottom. Next time, I'll see if I can get one with more sea behind. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted July 28, 2009 This could well be a shot of some mountain tops with the clouds surrounding them. Ian's point about the sky has merit. For what it's worth my eye would be satisfied with a smaller band of sky showing, say about the thickness of the band of gray on the horizon. I also like the diagonal formed by the position of the rocks; no accident I'm guessing. Always interesting to see what you come back with after working with such minimal subject matter. Carsten Ranke is good at that too. Best, LM. Link to comment
robwilson 0 Posted July 29, 2009 This is a real 'zen' shot. You could stare at it for hours! Lovely work! Cheers Rob Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted July 29, 2009 Len and Rob, many thanks. I agree about the crop as a photograph but Rob mentioned a Zen like appearance, which is exactly what I see, and to crop would alter that. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted August 3, 2009 Outstanding work ! The composition, as stands, is perfect. In my opinion, to crop would throw off the delicate and somewhat precarious balance which you've achieved. You would also lose some of the gentle gradation of tone and colour from the hard line of the horizon up to the top of the frame. I like how that transition mimics the transition from bottom to top in the portion below the horizon. Some measure of the charm here comes from your understated and light approach. Zen is an apt term to apply to this one. Link to comment

yngve_lundstr_m 0 Posted October 31, 2009 The colors complement's each other well, specially the foreground with the red stone against the white, these details together with the overall composition makes impact on viewers. This image are the best one in this seascapes album, so far. Best regards. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted November 5, 2009 Composition works fine as it is, imo. But I find the proposal above about a skyless crop has merit as well, as we would then be concentrating on this picture's strong points a little more. I guess I'd crop at horizon level and make sure I can keep a perfect square... With that said, I'd have a question : did you in a way or another desaturate de water a little or not ? If you did, I'd gladly see the original. Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted November 5, 2009 Thanks Marc. Here's the original. I have no idea what I did to it. I have the background layer and a copy so I assume that I did a curve or something on the duplicate. I have certainly desaturated it. Link to comment
